About the Role

The Head of Risk Governance plays a critical role in our firm's risk management framework, reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer and serving on the Goodbody Risk Function's Senior Management Team.

This position requires a seasoned professional with significant experience in a second-line role at a financial institution. As a key member of the risk team, you will be responsible for leading core components of the firm's Risk Management Lifecycle, including Material Risk Assessment, Risk Appetite setting, and Policy Governance.

You will work closely with the CRO to promote and oversee consistency of output from all pillars of the Risk Function, ensuring effective oversight and advisory activities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the design and functioning of core components of the Risk Management Lifecycle for the Goodbody Group, including the Risk Management Framework and Material Risk Assessment.
  • Assist the CRO in developing the annual Risk Function Plan and provide ongoing reporting to Executive and Board-level Risk Committees.
  • Coordinate the formulation of the firm's Risk Appetite Statement and monitor that the firm's risk profile and Strategic plans are consistent with it.
  • Manage the firm's policy governance framework and oversee its continued implementation, ensuring a formal and consistent approach to governance of the firm's risk policies and frameworks.
  • Develop and enable emerging risk processes.
  • Structure and orchestrate Risk Function SMT meetings to facilitate information sharing and collaboration.
  • Develop, maintain, and promote the Function's Risk Charter.
  • Liaise with the CRO and other members of the Risk Senior Management Team for the ongoing production of the CRO report.
  • Oversee delivery of the risk function's reporting obligations to all relevant governance fora, including the Executive Risk & Compliance Committee and Board Risk & Compliance Committee.
  • Oversee the management of an aligned model for risk assurance activities across the three lines of defence and deliver ongoing reporting to the Board Audit Committee on coverage provided.
  • Manage the planning and execution of Second Line of Defence Risk Assurance reviews.
  • Manage and oversee the risk function's reporting obligations to AIB Group p.l.c.
  • Participate in AIB Governance fora as necessary to maintain alignment of approach to Second Line of Defence risk management structures and practices.
  • Oversee the execution of Second Line of Defence Risk Function roles and responsibilities discharged by AIB Group p.l.c. and manage associated SLA.
  • Grow and manage a team of risk professionals, identifying competency requirements and ensuring ongoing development of a training plan as required.
  • Uphold and promote the values and independence of the role.
  • SUPPORT the maintenance and further development of a strongly embedded risk management culture.

Qualifications and Experience

  • The ideal candidate should have significant experience in a 2nd line role at a Financial Institution.
  • Third level education is not essential but may prove useful when selecting the successful candidate.
