Overview
AWS is introducing the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) and seeks experienced systems engineers with a strong background in cloud operations to join the AWS Managed Operations team.
You will help build and lead operations and development teams delivering high-availability AWS services (EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, Bedrock) for EU customers.

Responsibilities
Oversee the launch of the ESC in 2025, work with global AWS teams, and influence the evolution of AWS services and technology.
Collaborate with technology leaders, contribute to day-to-day operations improvements, and improve availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC.
Operate and improve one of the largest software systems, review operational health, write actionable bug reports, execute changes through change management, resolve backlog, and share tooling to help root cause analysis.
Occasionally participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents out-of-hours.
Eligibility requirements
Fluency in written and spoken English.
Residence in the EU to operate the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.
Relocation support within the European Union for successful applicants.
On-Call rota participation.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related IT discipline or equivalent industry experience.
Knowledge or experience in scripting (Bash, Python, or Ruby) or software development (Java, TypeScript, or similar), with Linux and networking fundamentals for troubleshooting and optimization.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to execute standard operating procedures and follow operational best practices.
Knowledge or experience operating services in AWS or other cloud systems.
Experience operating 24x7 high-availability, distributed software applications; performance tuning and monitoring (CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic or similar).
Knowledge or experience with Infrastructure as Code (CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar).
