Summary:

The EIID Finance Control & Reporting (FC&R) team provides high-profile services across Europe serving key stakeholders within the EIID branch network and wider Everest group. 

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Financial Controller to be responsible for developing and maintaining a robust accounting, reporting and financial control environment across all European branches of EIID. The role requires a substantial hands-on involvement in day-to-day accounting and reporting and, will support the Head of Finance to continue building a stable foundation in preparation for further significant growth of the business.

Key responsibilities:

EIID quarterly and annual financial close processes. This includes: management of the quarterly close cycle; and production of quarterly/annual class level and consolidated management information (statutory and divisional GAAP). 

Preparation of EIID financial statements in accordance with Irish GAAP.

Preparation and submission of quarterly and annual Solvency II (SII) returns to regulators and co-ordination of annual submissions to regulators (as required).

Management of the annual external audit including closing-out audit recommendations and implementing suitable reporting frameworks and controls to address any control weaknesses identified during the audit. 

Preparation of technical accounting papers.

Oversight of expense reporting ensuring that cross-charging mechanisms are applied in accordance with the agreed recharging mechanism.

Preparation and review of monthly and quarterly balance sheet reconciliations, including inter-company account reconciliations.

As part of Group expansion and transformation initiatives, support (or drive where relevant) necessary finance function changes and improvements.

Work closely with colleagues responsible for other Finance activities including, Cash Management, Accounts Payable, SOX Controls/Audit, and Financial Planning & Analysis.

Work closely with internal and external tax advisors in the preparation of annual tax returns, transfer pricing documentation and other tax requirements.

Work closely with the International Controller and Managers across other departments of the wider Everest Group.

Support ad-hoc projects, providing support on specifying Finance requirements and supporting testing.

Support development and maintenance of EIID policies and procedures, controls and systems ensuring consistency of application across Europe.

Actively manage and develop staff that may report to the role to ensure suitable delegation and oversight of routine tasks.

Remain updated on industry trends and changes in regulatory and financial reporting. 

Qualifications, Education & Experience:

Professionally qualified accountant (ACCA/ACA) with post-qualified experience in an insurance accounting and reporting role.

Experienced at preparing statutory accounts within an insurance Group.

Significant experience in communicating financial information to senior stakeholders.
 

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:

Highly organised with the ability to prioritise workload on a continual basis.

Strong communication skills with the ability to interact constructively with senior stakeholders and challenge assumptions.

Highly analytical and detailed, with the ability to step away from detail to see the bigger picture and communicate high-level messages to senior stakeholders.

Strong understanding of Insurance accounting principles and familiarity with Solvency II and GAAP (Irish/US) accounting methods. 

Self-sufficient in accessing financial information from general ledger systems and planning and reporting tools across the group.

Strong spreadsheet skills and strong awareness of reporting and MI tools, the role will have continual interaction with BI/IT teams and should be capable of challenging and driving proposals in these areas.
