RTÉ News and Current Affairs has a number of vacancies for key senior editorial and leadership positions on its radio news team.
The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for the output of some of RTÉ’s flagship and most listened to radio news programmes in the country including Morning Ireland, News at One and This Week.
Candidates will have a background in journalism, have displayed excellent news judgement, a track record in editorial decision making, generating new story ideas for programmes and attracting new, younger and more diverse audiences.
Ideally, candidates will have previous leadership and managerial experience. They will lead and motivate a creative team of journalists and production staff, assessing performance and maintaining and improving standards of journalism and presentation.
In addition, they will be able to work under pressure capably and competently, will display energy and flair and will be part of the team that delivers 24/7 trusted, accurate and impartial news across all platforms.
The Programme Editor will also undertake other duties and work alongside the Series Editor in the efficient management of the resources and personnel of the radio news teams. They will contribute to the enhancement of the strategic priorities of the newsroom, including digital transformation, challenging disinformation and leading on climate change coverage.
There will be a requirement to work early and late hours and at weekends.
The successful candidate will also work with and fill in for the digital audio editor to produce engaging news podcasts.
This appointment will be made on an ongoing full-time employment basis at Manager Grade 2 level. The salary scale is €71,532 to €100,334 per annum. Arising from this competition, a panel may also be created to fill any vacancies or provide cover for gaps in the roster that arise from time to time over the next 2 years.
