Founded in 2008, the ISSU is the national body representing second-level students in the Republic of Ireland, aiming to drive positive change in the Irish education sector by actively engaging young people in their educational journey, empowering them to voice their opinions and take initiative.

The primary objective of the National Student Voice Development Organiser is to coordinate, facilitate, and advocate for student elections, training sessions, campaigns, policies, and the student body's voice in the ISSU National Executive and membership. This role involves collaborating with individuals under 18 years old, providing support during their term in office.

As a compact team, ISSU staff members collaborate and participate in various tasks. The specific responsibilities of the National Student Voice Development Organiser include:

  • Organizing and overseeing the Annual Assembly, which includes event planning and workshops
  • Coordinating training and handover sessions for the Coiste Gnó annually
  • Arranging online and offline meetings for the Coiste Gnó
  • Communicating with the Coiste Gnó to assist in fulfilling their responsibilities and developing relevant policies
  • Supporting members and the Coiste Gnó in fostering productive relationships, intervening in conflicts when necessary
  • Planning and executing national events to amplify student voices nationwide
  • Hosting the annual Skills Academy event, with workshops and a three-day program
  • Providing reports to the Executive Director/Board of Directors and compiling necessary data and evaluations
  • Contributing to ISSU initiatives and projects as required
  • Performing any other duties appropriate to the role

Reporting Relationships

The National Student Voice Development Organiser reports to the Executive Director.

Travel

Frequent travel within Ireland (around 5-10 overnights per year).

Requirements

Essential

  • At least two years of experience with a youth, student, or educational organization, preferably involving adolescents
  • Familiarity with the Irish education system and the non-profit/youth work sector
  • Demonstrated skills in organizing events, budgeting, and execution
  • Understanding of the political landscape and current events related to education and student concerns
  • Passion for advancing youth participation and student representation in democracy
  • Initiative, motivation, and adaptability to dynamic environments
  • Fluency in English and strong communication skills
  • Excellent presentation and group facilitation abilities, along with proficiency in ICT
  • Experience with social media platforms or willingness to learn
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making capabilities

Desirable but not essential

  • Higher education degree, preferably in community development, youth work, or a related field
  • Experience in providing training sessions
  • Holding a valid driver's license
