Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) is one of Ireland's largest acute teaching hospitals, adult, psychiatric and age-related healthcare on one site. The Hospital has 450 adult beds with over 4,000 people on staff and more than 60 different nationalities represented. The Hospital is a provider of local, regional and national specialties. It is a designated trauma unit incorporating the National Pelvic and Acetabular Unit, a regional Urology Centre and the second largest provider of renal dialysis services in the country.

One of the two main academic teaching hospitals of Trinity College Dublin - TUH specialise in the training and professional development of staff in areas such as Medicine, Nursing, Health and Social Care Professionals. TUH is part of the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group which serves a population of over 1.2 million across seven counties.

The Hospital is an exciting and dynamic place to work, in the midst of implementing a new hospital strategy, the team have already delivered on the opening of a new Renal Dialysis unit, Reeves Day Surgery Centre, a step down facility in the community, a new ICU and the development of a supraregional Endometriosis Service. Provide training and support for Dietetic colleagues in the management of complex surgical patients, and disease-specific nutritional care Act as a resource and provide expert opinion, advice and guidance to dietetic colleagues and other healthcare professionals Evaluate the services provided to demonstrate their appropriateness and effectiveness; report on these periodically Explore the use of technology to enhance service delivery Develop service models, protocols and standards of care; disseminate and implement these Participate in service planning and work in collaboration with the Surgeons and Dietitian manager to further develop and expand the service. Develop and maintain high standards of evidence-based practice for the service Act as a consultant to health care professionals both within and outside Tallaght University Hospital on the nutritional management patients pre-and post GI Surgery Develop a structured process for the nutrition education of Dietetic colleagues, undergraduates and other disciplines in this specialist areas. Lead, supervise and mentor assigned Dietitians and Dietetic Assistants Provide regular assessment and feedback to Dietitians working in his/her area Ensure that high standards of practice are developed and maintained by staff Participate in the Department's professional supervision program Support effective team work Record statistical information and produce reports as required Ensure that educational materials and information databases used are up to date and evidence based Audit clinical practices to ensure compliance with agreed standards of care Undertake risk assessments, as required Be responsible for her/his own continuous professional development Participate in and contribute to the development of education & training programs, for other TUH clinical staff Participate in and contribute to the further development of the Departments practice placement program for student Dietitians Participate in the development and delivery of post graduate teaching relevant to the area of assignment , formal and informal, and both internal and external to the hospital Initiate and actively participate in audit and in quality improvement initiatives Contribute to the enhancement of clinical practice through participation in audit and research Qualifications & Experience required
Must Have: Be registered as a Dietitian by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU and provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Dietitians Register maintained by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU At least five years full time (or equivalent) post qualification dietetic experience, at least 3 of which must be working continuously in Gastro-Intestinal Surgery Clinical expertise in enteral and parenteral nutrition support Desirable: Experience in the management of Home Parenteral Nutrition A post graduate qualification in Dietetics and/or clinical research Membership of the Irish Nutrition & Dietetic Institute (INDI) Reward & Recognition Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales, grade code 3715. The appointment is fulltime, temporary and pensionable for approx. 2 year duration. The annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year pro rata. The leave year runs from 1st April to the 31st of March each year. Normal working hours are 35 worked over 5 days. Your contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8 am to 8 pm over 7 days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement.
