As the Head of Training at FLY4 Airlines, you will hold a pivotal role in providing strategic guidance, leadership, and expertise to the training division. Your principal responsibilities will include providing strategic direction and leadership within Crew Training, ensuring alignment with company goals and industry standards.

You will act as the Nominated Person for Crew Training, with direct access to the accountable manager regarding aviation regulations and procedures. Additionally, you will oversee and manage comprehensive training programs for crew members to enhance their competency and proficiency. Ensuring compliance with Irish and EASA regulations, as well as IOSA SARPS, is crucial to maintaining safety standards and regulatory requirements.

You will serve as an ambassador and advocate for FLY4 Airlines' safety culture, fostering excellence and commitment among crew members. Collaboration with the Director of Flight Operations (DFO) and the Leadership Team is essential to integrating the 'Power of 4' culture into all training initiatives, aligning with the company's values of Purpose, Passion, People, and Performance. Your role also encompasses managing the performance, motivation, and well-being of all direct reports within the department. Additionally, you'll oversee departmental costs in alignment with the defined budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation.

Based at our Dublin headquarters, you'll have hybrid remote working options, balancing productivity, and flexibility for effective collaboration. This setup supports a cohesive and high-performing crew operations team .

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the flight crew onboarding and training processes, ensuring the availability of a highly competent and qualified team.
  • Present training inputs in the development and implementation of operational and emergency procedures, ensuring that crews are effectively trained.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the Boeing 737 aircraft systems, operations, and performance characteristics, ensuring crew members are adequately trained.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive crew training programs in accordance with EASA regulations, IOSA standards, company policies, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure that training programs are designed to meet the specific needs of different crew positions, including pilots, cabin crew, and other relevant personnel.
  • Ensure that flight crew members receive thorough and regular training, recurrent checks, and assessments in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
  • Collaborate with relevant departments, such as, Safety, Compliance and HR, to identify training needs and create training plans accordingly.
  • Manage the delivery of crew training programs, including scheduling, logistics, and resource allocation.
  • Conduct periodic assessments and evaluations to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of training programs, adjusting as necessary.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments in aviation regulations, technological advancements, and industry trends to ensure training programs remain current and relevant.
  • Stay informed about industry developments, regulatory changes, and best practices in aviation to enhance knowledge and provide strategic recommendations to improve training.
  • Oversee the administration of crew training records, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide guidance and support to crew members during their training, addressing any questions, concerns, or issues that may arise.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement by promoting professional development opportunities for crew members.
  • Collaborate with external training providers and maintain relationships with relevant industry organisations to leverage resources and stay informed of best practices.
  • Establish effective communication channels with relevant internal departments, external stakeholders, and regulatory authorities, representing FLY4 Airlines professionally and fostering collaborative relationships.
  • Responsibility for the implementation of the department-related Safety Management System (SMS) under the provisions and supervision of the Safety Team regarding:
    • Conduct of the department-related SMS.
    • Maintaining department-related SMS-reporting database – assessing incoming reports, conducting risk assessments, analysing trends, collecting, and setting up statistical data for SAG, SRG, the Safety, Security & Compliance Director, and Accountable Manager.
    • Supervision of the safety trends and risk within the department and reporting to SAG and the Safety, Security & Compliance Director.
    • Proposing changes to safety policies to the Safety, Security & Compliance Director.
    • Collaborate with the Safety, Security & Compliance Director to effectively distribute Safety Management System (SMS) information throughout the company.
    • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by complying and adhering to Company standards and be aware of personal health and safety and that of others at work.

Emergency Response

  • Maintain knowledge of the emergency response programme policies, processes, and procedures, as defined by the Emergency Response Procedures. Be prepared to respond in a crisis as an ERP representative, if required by the role.

Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Hold a valid EASA Part-FCL pilot license with TRI-Base training qualification on B737 or equivalent, eligible for flight crew training positions, or relevant qualifications for other crew training positions.
  • Extensive experience in aviation, with a significant portion in management functions of crew training.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of EASA regulations, including Part-FCL and Air OPS covering all Annexes to the EU 965/2012 regulation, the related Certification Specifications (CSs), AMC, and GM, pertaining to crew training and competence as well as relevant parts of the IOSA standards & recommended practices.
  • Fluency in English both written and spoken is essential (ICAO Level 5/6). Knowledge of other languages (advantageous).
  • Strong understanding of instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and training methodologies.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and evaluate effective training programs in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate flight crew members to achieve high performance standards.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse teams, regulatory authorities, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational and project management abilities, with the capacity to prioritise tasks and manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance.
  • Proficiency in using and administering computer-based training systems and other relevant software applications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
Desirable Skills, Qualifications and Experience
  • 10 years of experience in aviation.
  • Certified training in SMS, train the trainer, Air Operations Regulation and Flight Crew training & qualification (advantageous).
  • Able to demonstrate excellent commercial awareness.
  • Confident, approachable, and enthusiastic.
  • Proactive and self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic.
  • Team player with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Flexibility to travel and work outside of normal hours, when required. Travel is required to attend meetings, training sessions, and other company-related activities. The role may also require working irregular hours including weekends and bank holidays to accommodate operational requirements and emergencies.
