Glasgow and Macclesfield in the UK.We currently have an exciting "high profile" career opportunity for an experiencedClerk of Worksto work in a small team of Resident Engineers in the supervision of the Pier Improvements Design and Build project on the island of Inis Oírr.The position is for an initial 24-month contract commencing in early ****.The successful candidate will be joining a national and international leader in the delivery of sustainable multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy solutions in the marine environment.The following team set up can be expected for the majority of the duration of the project:The RE team will be based in a rented house in Connemara (not on the island) and each team member is free to avail of spending 3 or 4 nights each week there (based on a 5-day working week).Each team member will spend 1 or 2 nights each week on the island during the early stages of the project (based on a 5-day working week).There will be a requirement to spend up to 4 nights on the island thereafter.On nights when no site supervision is needed, the hospitality for which the island is famous is there to be enjoyed...Each team member will spend 3 or 4 full days per week working on the island (based on a 5-day working week), together with one other team member during the overlap hours of 12:00am to 4:30pm each day.Each team member will have 1 or 2 days each week when they won't travel to the island at all, but will supervise the quarrying, casting, and transhipping facilities located in and around Connemara.About The RoleThe key duties of the role shall include, but not be limited to:Assist the Senior Resident Engineer in liaising with the employer's representative, contractor, client and all major stakeholders.Organise adequate supervision at all times during construction works on the siteReview and assess of Contractor claims and writing reports on sameReview and report on Contractor payment applications against work completedMonitoring progress on site relative to Construction programme.Ensure compliance with the conditions as set out in the relevant licenses for the worksAssessment of all relevant Contractor submissions including method statementsAssessment of all relevant contractor submittals, including method statements, for compliance with the works Requirements, and liaison with the Employers RepresentativeSupervision of the works, keeping records, measuring, managing correspondence, and contractual documentationEnsure works are carried out in accordance with Contract Specification and Design drawingsChecking that all Traffic Management Plans and phasing of Construction Works, are as agreed with client and relevant stake holders in accordance with Chapter 8 of the current Traffic Signs Manual, and in particular that vehicular and pedestrian movements are accommodated safely through the works and on the approaches to the worksA full list of all responsibilities is available on request.Typical site hours will be 8-6 with some flexibility required in line with the nature of the works.Key Skills/AttributesMandatory:Diploma in Engineering or Construction Management (minimum Level 6 in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent) in civil engineering or construction studies or be a member of the institute of Clerk of Works in Ireland, or possess a full course certificate in building issued by the Technical Instruction Branch of the Department of Educationor at least 10 years' postgraduate experience in civil engineering works, with a minimum of 7 years site-based experience in the construction of bridge, marine or civil worksExperience in the role of clerk of works as part of a resident engineer team (or equivalent) on civil engineering works.Experience in accurate record keeping.Knowledge and awareness of health and safety legislation.Good organisational skills.Motivated individual with a strong work ethic.Capable of writing clear and concise reports, keeping works records, measuring and recording all variations from contract and reading drawings.Have satisfactory knowledge of the surveying, levelling, and setting out of works.Proficient in spoken Gaeilge to a level which will enable oral communication with island residents in Gaeilge on non-technical matters relating to the project and accommodation works.Have successfully completed a Safe Pass course and
