Description of the Agency
ABOUT THE ALAMEDA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE The Alameda County Sheriff\'s Office is a full-service law enforcement agency accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) for its law enforcement services, its Regional Training Center, and its Dispatch Unit; the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors Laboratory Accreditation Board for its Crime Lab; the Bomb Squad Commanders Advisory Board for its Explosive Ordinance Unit.
Additionally, the agency\'s health care provider, Wellpath, has experience working with the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC).
The Sheriff\'s Office has a current budget of approximately $600 million and has over 1700 authorized positions, including in excess of 1000 sworn personnel.
The agency\'s Chief Executive Officer is Sheriff / Coroner Yesenia L. Sanchez, who is assisted in the operation of the agency by Undersheriff April Luckett-Fahimi, Assistant Sheriffs Daniel McNaughton and Pace Stokes.
The Sheriff of Alameda County is responsible for a vast array of tasks and duties, including the following: Providing security to the Consolidated Superior Courts; Operating the Coroner's Bureau; Operating a full-service criminalistics laboratory; Performing Civil Process; Operating the County Jail (Santa Rita); Operating the County Office of Emergency Services; Providing patrol and investigative services to the unincorporated areas of Alameda County; Pursuant to contractual agreements, providing patrol and investigative services to the City of Dublin, Oakland International Airport, Highland County Hospital, Social Services, and to the Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District; Conducting a basic academy pursuant to Police Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) requirements.

The Position
The Senior Fingerprint Examiner classification is the advanced level in the Fingerprint Examiner classification series in the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.
The Senior Fingerprint Examiner classification is responsible for the Tenprint classification, comparison and processing of fingerprints, CAL-ID biometric, and system correction audit processes.
Under general supervision of an Identification Supervisor in the Central Identification Bureau, the Senior Fingerprint examiner independently performs the duties of classifying, registering, searching, and identification of fingerprints in the Automated Fingerprint/Biometric Identification System (AFIS/ABIS); to assist other city and county agencies with fingerprint and identification work; and to do related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications
EITHER I Experience: The equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience in the class of Fingerprint Examiner in the Alameda County Classified Service, which includes successful completion of the CIB Fingerprint training in the instruction of fingerprint classification, identification, and comparison followed by eighteen (18) months of fingerprint processing with minimal guidance including 60 hours of approved additional fingerprint training in the field of fingerprint identification.
OR II Experience: The equivalent of three (3) years of full-time experience as a Fingerprint or Tenprint Examiner which includes a minimum of two (2) years in the field of identifying and comparing fingerprints and fingerprint processing using an AFIS system.
License: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
Special Requirements: Vision: Using both eyes, must have far vision of at least 20/100 without glasses, correctable to 20/20 with glasses.
Must have near vision, as measured by optometric examination, sufficient to perform fingerprint identification, classification, and related duties.
Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds.
Must be able to type 30 words per minute.
Successful completion of a thorough background investigation.

Knowledge and Skills
The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies: Knowledge of: Fingerprint classification and identification systems.
Alpha and alpha-numeric filing.
Windows-based computer programs.
Correct English usage.
Basic math.
Standard office practices and procedures.
Ability to: Perform precise, demanding work with speed and accuracy.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Qualify to testify in a court of law.
Read, understand, interpret, and follow complex instructions.
Write legibly.
Memorize and apply complex definitions and rules.
Take initiative and use independent judgment within established guidelines.
Prioritize work to meet deadlines.
Compose clear, comprehensive correspondence.
Operate standard office equipment, including a computer terminal.
Examination Components
The Examination will consist of the following steps: 1) A review of applications to verify possession of minimum requirements.
Those applicants who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process.
2) A review of supplemental questionnaires to select the best qualified applicants to continue in the process.
3) An oral interview which will be weighted as 100% of the applicant\'s final examination score.
The oral interview may contain situational exercises.
Candidates must attain a qualifying rating on each portion of this examination.
