Role Title: Clinical Nurse Manager II: Clinical Facilitator (Emergency Department) Job Reference Number: 001559 Closing Date: Sunday, 14th September 2025 Purpose of the Role: The post holder will be responsible for the provision of the highest standard of nursing care to patients, manage all nursing and allied staff in the Department, and be responsible for maintaining and developing professional standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities While this Clinical Facilitator will work with the ED education team across the Department, they will have a special interest in developing education modules to aid bridge the knowledge gap and develop ED skill set.
Clinical Practice Support the Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM) and Staff Nurses in the Emergency Department to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate clinical practice in accordance with best available evidence in order to influence innovations in practice and promote quality care for patients.
Act as a resource person on clinical issues, utilising skills and knowledge of a variety of clinical conditions.
Along with CNMs, assist Staff Nurses to move towards the next level of expert practitioner in the clinical management of patient care.
Guide CNMs in assisting staff to recognise their own learning needs and to develop an appropriate action plan in line with these needs.
Guide the CNMs in creating an environment which enhances continuous lifelong personal and professional development for all nursing staff.
Practice Development In collaboration with the NPDU, promote the development and maintenance of high standards of nursing care, in line with the adaptation programme.
In collaboration with the CNMs, assist with the development of policies, protocols, guidelines, and clinical competencies and their implementation.
Assist with the provision of appropriate continuing education programmes to meet nurse competency development needs.
Work with NPDU in implementing actions to improve clinical practice and staff development.
Sit on appropriate multidisciplinary committees and sub-groups within the NPDU and at Hospital level which are concerned with initiating practice development projects.
Education Develop and implement a programme on basic emergency nursing principles for new graduates/post adaptation nurses.
Ensure appropriate training, education, and evaluation takes place.
In conjunction with other members of the education team, develop and continually revise clinical nursing skills/competencies.
Be familiar with assessment criteria.
Co-ordinate an education programme and in-service training to meet the needs of new graduates and post adaptation nurses.
Create an environment for continuous lifelong professional and personal development and learning for all staff.
Management Demonstrate ability to self-manage and organise own workload efficiently.
Help foster a supportive working environment by demonstrating excellent leadership ability and communication skills.
Communicate effectively with the Directorate Nurse Manager and CNMs regarding the progress and development of Staff Nurses within their area of responsibility.
Demonstrate both clinical and professional leadership, enabling a multidisciplinary team culture of continuous staff learning and practice development.
Be highly motivated and have vision of developing skills/competencies which are applicable to clinical areas.
Develop a network of contacts and communication links with other professionals which will assist in the provision of expert advice to meet the needs of all grades of nursing staff.
Attend managerial meetings which require the input of the Clinical Support Nurse.
The Clinical Nurse Manager II must adhere to the Code of Professional Practice and Behaviours for Registered Nurses.
Is aware of and understands the need to adhere to Hospital and/or professional standards, policies, and procedures, relevant to their area of practice.
Communicates effectively in English language, written, and spoken, as appropriate to job requirements.
Participate and cooperate with legislative and regulatory requirements in relation to Health and Safety as outlined in the Safety, Health and Welfare Act 2005 and the Hospital Safety Statement.
Personal and Professional Development Take responsibility for updating own professional and personal development.
Be pro-active in developing own competencies in a structured way linked to regular professional and personal development planning.
Practice within St Jamess Hospital policies and procedures, Scope of Professional Conduct, and Scope of Nursing Practice.
Undertake appropriate further training and education to enable you to practice within the Emergency Department and enable you to support the service needs within the Scope of Professional Practice.
Ensure own mandatory learning and training is kept up to date.

Required: Registered General Nurse with The Nursing Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), or eligible to register.
5 years post-registration experience in an acute hospital setting or relevant clinical area within the last 7 years.
Demonstrate management experience throughout the last 2 years.
Level 9 postgraduate qualification.
Demonstrate I.

skills including excellent keyboard skills.
Experience in teaching and assessing the nursing and HCA team throughout the last 2 years.
Desired: Management course.
MSc in Nursing.
Working knowledge of healthcare patient record systems.
