Are you passionate about the incredible difference foster care can make in the life of a child? Do you possess a strong background in Advocacy, Communications, Campaign Development, and stakeholder management? If so, we invite you to bring your expertise to the Board of the Irish Foster Care Association (IFCA).
About Us:
Established in 1981 by a collective of foster carers and social workers with the shared aim of achieving a progressive, robust and equitable foster care system, the Irish Foster Care Association has evolved to be a cornerstone in the foster care ecosystem in Ireland. IFCA's strength and effectiveness is couched in the ethos of the power of collective endeavour of the diverse members of the foster care community.
We are the national organisation that supports foster families and the wider fostering community by advancing and promoting best practice in foster care through support, learning, and advocacy. We believe in a society where the importance of fostering is recognised, valued, and supported.
We Value:
Rights-Based: IFCA advocates for and adopts a rights-based approach to the provision of, and access to, services and supports that are informed by national and international standards.
A nurturing stable family environment, in a diversity of forms, as a cornerstone of a child's growth and development: We champion and support the fundamental role of a nurturing supportive family home environment in which to grow and thrive as a cornerstone in a child's life.
Respect and Inclusivity: Respect for and inclusion of all members of the fostering community is core to our work.
Collaboration: We work in partnership with all our stakeholders to achieve our shared goals for an Ireland that supports and values fostering.
Why Join Our Board?
As a member of the IFCA Board, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of foster care in Ireland. Your unique skills and experience will help us strengthen our resources, expand our reach, and enhance the lives of foster children and their families.
Key Skills and Attributes:
- Advocacy: Proven experience in developing and executing successful advocacy strategies and campaigns.
- Communications: Expertise in creating and implementing communication plans across different channels, to various audiences.
- Stakeholder Management: Experience in engaging and collaborating with various stakeholders, including state and state-supported bodies, private industry, philanthropic bodies, and NGOs.
What We Offer:
- Impactful Work: An opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of foster families.
- Collaborative Environment: Work alongside a dedicated team of professionals and volunteers who share your passion for the difference a foster care placement can make in the life of a child.
- Professional Growth: Enhance your skills and expand your network within the nonprofit and advocacy sectors.
Your Commitment:
- You will regularly attend Board meetings, approximately 10 per year – sharing your knowledge and skill. Board meetings and our AGM are a mix of in-person and remote.
- You will commit to active participation in board committees including initiating and accepting strategic assignments and will build effective relationships with other Board Members to ensure the successful operation of the Board.
How to Apply:
If you are ready to use your skills to help us build a brighter future for foster families, we would love to hear from you. Please send your CV and a cover letter outlining your relevant experience and why you are interested in joining the IFCA Board to ciara@ifca.ie.
