
Portfolio Director

As Portfolio Director, you will be responsible for the strategic leadership and operational oversight of a team of Project Directors, Engagement Managers, and Consultants delivering Salesforce-based solutions. This high-impact role ensures effective governance, team capability, and resource planning across a dynamic portfolio of client projects. You will primarily work on Salesforce projects but should be open to learning other technologies.
You will drive continuous improvement in delivery operations, ensuring the portfolio is well-resourced, efficiently executed, and aligned with business objectives. Working closely with peers in professional services, technical delivery, and support, you will maintain high standards of delivery and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of Project Directors, Engagement Managers, and Consultants, providing strategic oversight and guidance across delivery activities, supporting Project Directors responsible for end-to-end Salesforce project execution. Hold accountability for leadership and management of the Engagement Manager team.
- Support team growth and performance through mentoring, coaching, and development planning.
- Manage personal development, appraisals, and career progression for the Engagement Management team.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, high performance, and continuous improvement.
- Lead performance management cycles, including reviews, salary adjustments, promotions, and bonuses, ensuring fairness and feedback-based decisions.
- Support team transitions and challenges, maintaining morale and alignment with company values.
2. Strategic Direction & Organisational Alignment
- Provide strategic oversight to ensure effective project delivery and client satisfaction.
- Define and implement strategic delivery directions aligned with broader organizational goals.
- Drive initiatives to enhance delivery maturity, scalability, and consistent outcomes.
- Monitor market and internal trends to evolve strategies, methodologies, and team capabilities, aligning skills with pipeline demands.
3. Recruitment & Capacity Planning
- Manage resource and capacity planning across the Salesforce portfolio.
- Ensure skills match project needs; maintain visibility of pipeline, resources, and demand.
- Lead recruitment and onboarding of new staff, ensuring effective integration.
- Oversee team utilization and bench capacity, aligning with strategies and commercial goals.
4. Governance & Operational Oversight
- Ensure effective project delivery and client satisfaction through strategic oversight.
- Accountable for financial performance, including revenue, margins, and change management.
- Maintain or exceed margin expectations and high customer satisfaction scores.
- Implement robust governance, reporting, and quality assurance processes.
- Act as escalation point for delivery risks and challenges.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on people strategy, portfolio reporting, and stakeholder communication.
5. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Support planning to optimize delivery and resourcing.
- Collaborate across functions to ensure seamless delivery and support.
- Partner with senior leadership on people initiatives and participate in strategic forums.
- Encourage skill expansion beyond Salesforce to support continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For
Experience & Qualifications
- 8+ years managing Salesforce project delivery in professional services or similar environments.
- 3+ years leading teams or portfolios, responsible for people, governance, and resourcing.
- Proven ability to manage complex portfolios balancing strategy and operations.
- Deep knowledge of Salesforce project lifecycles, methodologies, and delivery models.
Skills & Attributes
- Strong leadership with strategic and delivery focus.
- Excellent communication, planning, and stakeholder skills.
- Ability to lead through change and inspire teams.
- Data-driven decision-making and risk management skills.
- Salesforce certifications preferred.
- Quick learner, adaptable to new technologies.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum, Jira, Confluence, and matrix organizations.
