Overview

Camphill Communities of Ireland (CCoI) are recruiting for Social Care Assistants. This is an exciting opportunity for someone seeking a new challenge.

Purpose of Post

The post holder will help ensure the day-to-day operations of the Service reflect the ethos and vision of Camphill Communities of Ireland (CCoI) and that co-workers meet the needs of individuals supported by the services. The person appointed will be part of a day and residential support team, working with individuals to discover what constitutes a good life and the supports needed to achieve their goals. The role requires collaboration with the social care team and important people in the individual's life, and a high degree of flexibility regarding timing and location of supports, as dictated by the individual's plan. The successful candidate should participate proactively as a team member and contribute to ongoing teamwork development.

Duties & Responsibilities

Advocacy & Rights

  • Respect each person who uses the services as an equal citizen.
  • Uphold and respect the human, legal and constitutional rights of each person, recognising individuality and equality, and empower them to grow to the highest possible level of personal autonomy.
  • Facilitate, encourage and develop the choice and decision-making skills of people who use the services.
  • Facilitate, encourage and develop self-advocacy skills and opportunities for involvement in advocacy for people who use services.
  • Enable each individual to pursue and maintain their hobbies and interests.
  • Foster, encourage and develop self-help and social skills to achieve the greatest degree of autonomy.
  • Facilitate active participation and integration into the community through generic community facilities.

Person Centred Support for Living

  • Ensure a person-centred approach to service delivery.
  • In the context of person-centred plans, support individuals with aspects of individual and group service responses including: occupation and leisure activities; communication; behaviour support plans; independent living skills; social integration and use of community facilities; personal care; personal development.
  • Assist in fostering and developing self-care skills, including personal hygiene, health matters and personal appearance.
  • Support appropriate physical and personal care needs (moving and handling, fire safety, cleaning, laundry, infection control, mobility, communication, dressing, bathing, toileting, assistance with eating, sleep support, skin care, first aid and health promotion).
  • Attend medical appointments as required.
  • Ensure a healthy and nutritious diet, respecting individual choices.
  • Encourage full participation in the home while maintaining a safe, welcoming home environment with comprehensive, person-centred and holistic personal support.
  • In consultation with the individual, implement and review person-centred plans and participate in resident reviews as required.
  • Support competency in driving centre transport and participate in transport duties as required (flexible starting/finishing times may be necessary).
  • As a full team member, accept delegated responsibility for the physical and emotional well-being and personal hygiene of individuals supported by the service.
  • Assist with organisation of centre outings.

Management and Leadership

  • Be responsible for the physical and emotional well-being of individuals supported by the services.
  • Ensure the safe use and care of equipment and report faults as they arise.
  • Contribute actively to the team, providing consistent and quality support for vulnerable adults.
  • Familiarise yourself with and ensure adherence to policies, procedures and codes of practice of the services.
  • Keep all records up to date and properly filed in the service's records management system.
  • Ensure reports, timesheets and financial statements are accurate and submitted on time.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records for each person, including needs assessments, risk assessments, incidents, notifiable events, file notes, communication plans, behavioural management, health action plans, medication management and financial records.
  • Report concerns promptly to the Person in Charge (PIC) and respond to accidents or incidents appropriately.
  • Utilise transport services efficiently and advise staff on transport needs.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Applicants must have:

  • A minimum of QQI Level 5 Major Award on the QQI Framework, e.g., BA in Social Care Studies or an equivalent qualification in Community/Health or Social Care.
  • At least 1 year's experience of working with vulnerable adults or adults with intellectual disabilities.
  • An understanding of current policy and developments at national and sectoral levels in relation to social care within disability services.
  • Ability to follow plans and methods to meet ongoing needs of individuals supported.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Proficient IT skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams).
  • A full driver's licence and access to own car is essential.

Salary Scale: €30,272 to €37,483 per annum (based on a 40 hour week)
