Reports to: Decontamination Manager

Salary: Appointment will be made on CSSD technician salary scale (€41,114 - €48,064 at a point in line with Government pay policy.

Hours of work: 39 hours

Closing Date: 12 Noon September 19th 2025

Position Summary: To clean and reprocess Reusable Invasive Medical Devices (RIMDs) across all areas of the hospital in line with HSE National Standards for the reprocessing of RIMDs

Responsibilities

The main duties and responsibilities:

  • Collecting used items (where alternative arrangements are in place, these will continue to apply, as appropriate).
  • Cleaning of trolleys and storage shelves, the autoclaves, the gas plasma steriliser, washer/disinfectors for instruments / flexible endoscopes and any other equipment within the department as directed by department management.
  • Packing - making up of requisite packs for theatres, wards, and all other hospital Departments as required.
  • Clean, Decontaminate and sterilise RIMDs in line with department procedures.
  • Clean and Decontaminate Endoscopes and Probes.
  • Stocking shelves of sterile supplies, non-sterile disposable items and assisting with stock control and requisitioning.
  • Maintenance of records, where appropriate, in line with departmental policy.
  • Inspect, test and distribute processed devices; recording of relevant data in appropriate log books with full clear signature of operative.
  • Operation of mechanical processing equipment including washer-disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners and sterilisers.
  • Handling and storage of raw material components.
  • Compliance with Health & Safety procedures and observance of requirements for personal hygiene and Hospital Infection Control.
  • Compliance with HSE Standards and Recommended practices for Decontamination of RIMDs 2014.
  • Other appropriate duties as may be assigned for time to time by the Hospital.
  • Successful candidate may be required to reprocess medical devices in other areas of the Hospital including Endoscopy and St. Joseph's Hospital as required.
Qualifications

Mandatory:

  • Ability to work noncore hours (Shift), Nights, Weekends and Bank Holidays
  • Decontamination Course - HSELand.ie - levels 1 and 2 or other certified Decontamination Course
  • Previous experience working in a comparable Healthcare Environment

Desirable:

  • FETAC Level 6 Decontamination
  • Evidence of working in a decontamination / sterilisation unit in a hospital of similar size
  • Other 3rd level qualifications applicable to the above named post

Particular to this position:

  • Successful candidates will be required to work on an out of hours shift pattern on a regular basis. Which may include night shifts.

Conditions specific to this post (if any): The Successful candidate will be required to undertake a 3rd level Decontamination Course (if not already obtained) at a later stage in this post.
