Ayrton Group are seeking a Health and Safety Officer to join our client, a construction services group, on a new-build project based in Carrigtwohill Co. Cork.

The Health and Safety Officer will be responsible for advising on overall compliance in matters of Health & Safety in accordance with client policies and relevant statutory provisions. The HSO must lead by example and serve as a role model in mobilising the team and ensuring the highest standards of Health & Safety are adopted on-site.

This is an initial 18-month contract role with the potential for extension.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular, formal site audits and inspections as directed in the Safety Management System.
  • Maintain records of statutory inspections for all activities and plant equipment.
  • Advise and instruct on safety-related topics such as noise levels and machinery use.
  • Assist Site Management in drafting and communicating Method Statements.
  • Review and update existing policies according to legislation.
  • Inspect premises and personnel work to identify issues or non-conformities (e.g., not using protective equipment).
  • Report incidents and near misses, follow up with root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures.
  • Review subcontractor Safety Statements and Safety Compliance.
  • Review Safe Work Plans for on-site tasks.
  • Manage Health & Safety documentation on-site.
  • Recommend and manage PPE for on-site employees.
  • Deliver Health & Safety induction programmes for new employees and contractors.
  • Conduct Toolbox Talks as required.

Key Requirements:

  • Qualification in Health and Safety.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in an on-site Safety role preferred.
  • Construction experience required.
  • Safe Pass and Manual Handling certifications required.
  • Ability to work independently and innovatively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Legally permitted to live and work in Ireland.
