The Technician Electronic Engineering & Communications (Specified Purpose to March 2026) role at South East Technological University focuses on providing specialised technical support for Electronic Engineering & Communications programmes, including Electronic Engineering, Robotics and Automation, Biomedical, and Cybersecurity for Industrial Networks. The position requires a technically skilled individual who can maintain and support hardware, software, and laboratory equipment to enable learning and research for students and academic staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary point of contact for technical support requests from staff across all departmental programmes.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair specialised laboratory equipment, including robotics systems, biomedical devices, industrial controllers, and electronic components.
  • Install, configure, and manage software and hardware relevant to electronic design, simulation, and programming.
  • Provide hands-on technical assistance to students and lecturers during practical sessions, labs, and project work.
  • Assist with the procurement, inventory, and lifecycle management of all technical equipment and components.
  • Ensure all equipment and lab environments comply with safety standards and best practices.
  • Keep detailed records of technical issues, maintenance activities, and system configurations.
  • Stay current with advancements in the fields of electronic engineering, robotics, and cybersecurity to help identify and integrate new technologies into the department\'s curriculum and research.
Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will be a technically proficient and detail-oriented professional with a strong background in one or more of the specified fields. They must possess excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Strong communication skills are essential for explaining complex technical concepts to students and collaborating effectively with academic staff. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a proactive approach to maintaining a high-quality, safe, and efficient technical learning environment.

Details
  • Hours of Work: To be on duty for not less than 36.5 hours per week. Hours may be allocated between 8:00am and 10:00pm, Monday to Friday. No staff member will be required to work more than one night per week as part of the 36.5 hour week. Overtime paid at the rate approved from time to time for additional nights or weekend work (subject to Working-time Act).
  • Salary: Technician Salary Scale €38,803 - €54,884
  • Annual Leave: 24 days. Annual Leave will be in accordance with arrangements authorised by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science from time to time
