Relief CSSD Technician

Job Type: Relief/Bank

Location: UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic, Santry, Dublin 9

Overview of role:

To assist in the production of sterilized medical devices for use in all clinical and other areas designated by the Clinic.
Personally and professionally accountable to the customer and accountable for own actions at all times.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Collect used items: where alternative arrangements are in place, these will continue to apply, as appropriate.
  2. Clean trolleys, storage shelves, the steam autoclave, and all other equipment within the department.
  3. Decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments and applicable patient care equipment according to departmental and international standards.
  4. Prepare packs for theatres, wards, and other departments.
  5. Sterilize and issue goods.
  6. Stock shelves with sterile supplies, non-sterile disposable items, and assist with stock control and requisitioning.
  7. Maintain records in line with departmental policy.
  8. Record relevant data in computer or log books with clear signatures.
  9. Decontaminate used devices using mechanical and manual methods.
  10. Inspect and test devices; report discrepancies or faults immediately to the Manager/Supervisor.
  11. Load and unload disinfection/sterilizing equipment.
  12. Handle and store raw material components.
  13. Operate mechanical processing equipment including washer disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, and sterilizers.
  14. Organize workload to ensure service standards are maintained.
  15. Assist in training new staff members.
  16. Keep up to date with new practices and ensure policies & procedures are followed.
  17. Perform daily checks on autoclaves and washer disinfectors as per HSE standards.
  18. Rotate through each department area as defined by management.
  19. Maintain a clean and dust-free environment at all times.
  20. Recognize and handle urgent items as required.

Qualifications & Experience:

Instruction and education will be provided on-site regarding relevant guidelines and duties. Confidentiality of patient information and hospital data is essential.
