Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist Neurological RehabilitationWTE 1.0 (Grade Code 3824) New development Consultant led Neuro-rehabilitation service (as part of the Neuro-rehabilitation Strategy and Managed Clinical Rehabilitation Network (MCRN), in The Royal Hospital Donnybrook (RHD). The RHD provides Sub-Acute, Stroke, Respite, Continuing Care, Neurological and General Rehabilitation services to adults, along with a busy Day Hospital under the direction of both rehabilitation and geriatric consultants. The RHD is an independent, voluntary, charitable organization. This RHD Neuro-rehabilitation service is upgrading and expanding to 18 inpatient rehabilitation beds with the exciting development of 10 new RHD positions (8.2 WTE), as part of the MCRN and the overall implementation of the Neuro-rehabilitation Strategy. Reporting Relationship The post holder reports to and is accountable to the Occupational Therapy Manager Key Duties and Responsibilities: Professional /Clinical: Be responsible for the provision of a quality and evidence based Occupational Therapy service for the Neuro Rehabilitation Service in The Royal Hospital Donnybrook. Provide leadership, guidance and support alongside other team members in promoting and developing the service in line with the organisational strategy. Possess skills and expertise greater than those expected of a senior grade therapist including clinical skills alongside research and development work. Undertake highly skilled and specialised assessment and treatment of patients, including but not limited to positioning, range of movement, tone, pressure care, seating, upper limb rehabilitation, discharge planning, cognitive perceptual, sensorimotor and psychosocial assessment. Maintain a caseload and provide clinical leadership in the day-to-day running of the service by supporting and supervising Staff grades and students, prioritising and allocating work and delivering effective team working. Development and maintenance of a high standard of clinical practice within this area through clinical evaluation, completing audit and evidence-based practice. Work collaboratively with patients, families, caregivers and relevant others as appropriate in line with local policies/guidelines Liaise with all disciplines involved with direct patient care so that all facets of patient care are planned and co-ordinated. Communicate with other clinical specialists throughout the country and internationally to further develop clinical excellence and research. Attend clinics and participate in meetings, case conferences and ward rounds as appropriate. Serve on and advise on committees local/regional/national that may be set up relevant to this area of clinical specialty. In conjunction with the Occupational Therapist Manager, lead service planning and development by anticipating the changing needs of the service and service users. Promote positive change and the development of standards /strategies for quality improvement and outcome measurement adhering to existing standards and protocols. Maintain professional standards in relation to confidentiality, ethics and legislation and operate within the scope of practice as set out by the Irish Association of Occupational Therapists Eligibility Criteria Candidates for appointment must: (i) Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU. (ii) Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability, management, leadership and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office. (iii) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued. Annual Registration On appointment practitioners must maintain annual registration on Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU. Candidates for appointment must: Have five years full time (or equivalent) years post qualification clinical experience of which four years (or equivalent) must be consecutive in the required area of specialism. (ii) Professional Development and Practice. Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the required area of specialism, in the form of post-graduate qualifications or relevant courses. (iii) Demonstrate a proven record of clinical excellence. (iv) Candidates must demonstrate achievement in the areas of clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, practice development, teaching and research. (v) High standard of cognitive assessment and treatment skills. Advanced neurological assessment and treatment skills. Advanced skills and knowledge in specialised seating, splinting and rehabilitation. Education and Development Education and Development of Others. Continuing Professional Development.
