Associate Software Engineer (Back-End) - PEN

The Sports Super Tribe is comprised of 5 self-sufficient tribes, encompassing over 60 squads of Engineers, QA, and associated roles across Porto, Dublin and Leeds. We are dedicated to delivering fast, distinctive, dynamic, and trusted sports betting experiences. This role is in the Pricing tribe with the goal to redefine the Soccer Trading experience.
You will be responsible for Core Soccer Capabilities, creating, extending, evolving, innovating, supporting and owning them. You may be involved in end-to-end experiences and assist other teams to maximise what they can create. This is an opportunity to work with GBP and colleagues in multiple brands within an inner sourcing model.
These are 24/7/365 systems with large scale users and data. This is a demanding and rewarding role for a developer focused on performant back-end systems. Soccer is a strategic area for Flutter with major events and company goals tied to it.
Your Team You’ll be working in a team that understands the core Soccer platform and its output to drive the best customer experiences.
What You’ll Do Our Developers know their stuff – they’re busy working independently and setting high standards. As an Associate Software Engineer for Backend, you are part of an agile Software Development Team, responsible for the full lifecycle of an application using cutting-edge technologies to deliver value to customers, while scaling our platform for worldwide markets. You will work independently on a variety of tasks, with a solid team to back you up with guidance.
How You’ll Do It Have a strong desire to become a great Software Engineer.
Appreciation of Agile Engineering and how to break down work into discrete tasks.
Understanding of Kotlin/Java is key; knowledge of JavaScript, Python, MySQL, C# and TypeScript is advantageous.
Basic knowledge of performance optimization.
Ability to implement unit, component and integration tests.
Knowledge of common modelling approaches and problem solving.
Basic knowledge in Git.
Basic knowledge of CI using tools such as Jenkins and GitHub workflows.
Proactively pick up small tickets with minimal support.
Contribute to squad code reviews in areas relevant to your experience.
Actively contribute to squad ceremonies (stand-ups, planning, retros).
Contribute to basic automated integration tests and E2E regression tests.
Share knowledge through pair programming and MOB programming.
Understanding of Soccer and pricing/trading systems.
Ownership of self-development and addressing skill gaps.
Understand reusability techniques and identify appropriate uses.
As an Associate Software Engineer, potential to grow with us and a strong emphasis on soft skills – being a team player, good communication, and problem-solving passion are valued.
Tech Stack Backend runs in Kotlin; experience with Kotlin or extensive experience with similar OOP languages is ideal.
Technologies include AWS, ArgoCD, JavaScript, React, Python, AWS DB solutions, C#, Kafka, Akka, Confluent Cloud, GitHub, Splunk, SignalFx, Grafana, and more.
