Ecological Consultant

We seek a highly skilled Ecological Consultant to drive our mission of sustainability and conservation in Galway.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive ecological surveys for habitats, flora, and fauna, ensuring protected species assessments are accurate and thorough.
  • Support the preparation of Ecological Impact Assessments (EIA) and Appropriate Assessment (AA) reports under Ireland's Habitats Directive.
  • Provide expert insights into biodiversity strategies, conservation management plans, and habitat restoration projects.
  • Analyse survey data and produce technical reports with actionable recommendations for mitigation and enhancement.
  • Assist with planning applications and environmental assessments for diverse projects, including renewable energy, infrastructure, and commercial developments.
  • Utilize GIS mapping tools to effectively analyse and present ecological data.
  • Collaborate seamlessly with multidisciplinary teams, including planners, engineers, and environmental consultants.
  • Ensure meticulous compliance with Irish and EU environmental legislation, including the Wildlife Acts and Birds & Habitats Directives.
  • Engage proactively with stakeholders, including clients, regulators, NGOs, and local authorities.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field is essential.
  • A minimum of 2+ years of experience in ecological consultancy or conservation is required.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish and EU biodiversity legislation and policy is crucial.
  • Experience conducting protected species surveys (e.g. bats, birds, amphibians, mammals) and habitat assessments is necessary.
  • Proficiency in GIS mapping software (ArcGIS, QGIS) is desirable.
  • Membership or working towards CIEEM (Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management) is an advantage.
  • Excellent analytical, reporting, and communication skills are vital.
  • A full, clean driving license is essential for fieldwork and site visits.
