Job Title: Library Assistant

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Library Assistant. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and has excellent communication skills.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team that provides support to students and staff in their research and learning endeavors.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing excellent customer service to library users, responding to queries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner
  • Operating the library IT system, including loans, returns, renewals, and reservations
  • Assisting library users in finding resources in all formats, including print and digital materials
  • Helping students and staff with computer-related and printing issues
  • Sending journal alert e-mails and creating new DDUH Research publications records
  • Shelving, repairing, and sorting of library material
  • Assisting with collection maintenance, document delivery services, and supervising user activities in the library

The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail. They will also possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • A third-level degree qualification
  • A minimum of one year's experience in a front-line customer service role
  • Excellent IT skills, including MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint) and the internet
  • Demonstrate an interest in a career in Library and Information Services
  • Ability and willingness to learn new skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Accuracy and attention to detail in their work
  • Ability to effectively deal with multiple tasks simultaneously and to manage deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
  • High levels of motivation, proactivity, adaptability, and flexibility
  • Ability to work on own initiative and to work well in a team
