Job Title: Cancer Nurse Role Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced and compassionate Registered General Nurse to join our team as a Cancer Nurse. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive cancer information, advice, and support to patients, carers, the public, and healthcare professionals through various channels, including face-to-face, telephone, email, and written communications.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide accurate and up-to-date cancer information and advice to service users, based on their needs and preferences
• Refer service users to relevant healthcare professionals and organisations, in line with our policies and procedures
• Deliver educational programmes locally in groups and online, tailored to meet the needs of different audiences
• Act as a resource to multidisciplinary teams in hospitals, providing information, supports, and services available
• Participate in Irish Cancer Society exhibition stands at workshops and conferences for both patients and healthcare professionals
• Record and report incidents and complaints involving staff and service users, and assist in investigations as required
• Collaborate with managers to develop and manage Daffodil Centres, ensuring high-quality professional services
• Maintain good working relationships with nurses, consultants, and clinical staff involved in cancer care
• Manage volunteers assigned to Daffodil Centres, ensuring availability and maintaining a presence
• Document activities, statistics, and satisfaction with service provided
• Stay updated on cancer care developments and resources, particularly in the catchment area
• Maintain stock levels of high-quality information materials, displayed in the Daffodil Centre

Skills and Qualifications:
• Registered General Nurse, active register of Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
• Post-registration qualification in cancer nursing (minimum diploma level)
• Three years recent experience in cancer nursing
• Demonstrated evidence of continuing professional development at appropriate level
