Accounting Expertise

As a professional in financial control, you will play a vital role in supporting the expanding and complex business requirements. You will have a direct reporting line to a senior manager within the finance team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for completing functional control processes to support global entities, focusing on Europe but also involved with North America and Asia Pacific entities. This team is accountable for accounting and finance oversight of source systems within the business, including processing journals, reconciliations, analysis and other controls. The team ensures that banking activities of Northern Trust entities are accurately recorded in the general ledger each month and owns significant parts of the balance sheet and income statement.

Responsibilities
  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly accounting, reporting and oversight to support financial accounting and reporting processes;
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations and ensure all documentation and accounting meets corporate requirements and policies;
  • Produce end-of-month analytics and trend data to assist review and validation of financial results;
  • Understand end-to-end process flow and act as liaison between front/middle/back office and finance teams;
  • Investigate issues affecting financial and regulatory reporting, document issues and conclude new or improved controls required;
  • Work with local and global finance teams to recommend and implement standardized process improvements identified in day-to-day activities;
  • Respond to and resolve queries from business, finance colleagues and head office in a timely manner.
Requirements

Successful candidates will possess:

  • Strong planning and organizational skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Highly numerate with strong analytical skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to assess issues, identify solutions and problem solve;
  • Capacity to react and respond in a timely manner;
  • Flexibility in adapting to changing work methods, deadlines and variable workloads;
  • Qualified accountant (preferably ACA/ACCA) with experience in multi-currency financial services environment;
  • Part-qualified accountant working towards full qualification with relevant experience considered;
  • Background in corporate financial control environment with sound knowledge of accounting, reporting and financial control requirements;
  • Advanced level of IT skills, particularly MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
