Job Title: Consultant Ecologist

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced ecologist to join our team. As a consultant ecologist, you will play a key role in conducting ecological surveys, preparing reports, and supporting project delivery.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic ecologist to develop their skills and expertise in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Conducting ecological surveys (e.g. habitat, bat, bird, mammal, aquatic) in accordance with best practice and seasonal constraints
  • Assisting in the preparation of ecological reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Appropriate Assessments (AA), and Biodiversity Chapters for EIARs
  • Supporting project delivery in compliance with Irish and EU environmental legislation
  • Undertaking desktop studies and data analysis using GIS and ecological databases
  • Liaising with clients, statutory agencies, and project stakeholders
  • Providing input into mitigation design and habitat management planning
  • Maintaining high technical standards and keeping up to date with current ecological guidance and legislation
Requirements:
  • Degree (or higher) in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 2–3 years' experience in ecological consultancy or similar role
  • Strong field survey skills (e.g. habitat mapping using Fossitt classification, protected species surveys)
  • Knowledge of Irish wildlife legislation, Habitats Directive, and planning system
  • Proficiency in report writing, data interpretation, and impact assessment
  • Full clean driving licence required
  • Bat licence or other NPWS licences an advantage
