Health and Safety Officer Job

We are seeking a Health and Safety Officer for a residential construction project in Douglas, Co. Cork.

The successful candidate will be responsible for advising on overall compliance in matters of Health & Safety in accordance with client policies and relevant statutory provisions.

This is an initial 6-month contract role with the potential for extension, commencing as soon as possible.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting regular site audits and carrying out inspections as directed in the Safety Management System.
  • Ensuring that a record of statutory inspections is kept for all activities and plant equipment.
  • Advising and instructing on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery etc.).
  • Assisting Site Management in drafting and communicating Method Statements.
  • Reviewing existing policies and measures and updating according to legislation.
  • Inspecting premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity.
  • Performing incident reporting and near misses and follow up actions, identifying root causes and implementing changes to prevent reoccurrences.
  • Reviewing subcontractors' Safety Statements and Safety Compliance.
  • Reviewing Safe Work Plans for the tasks on site.
  • Management of Health & Safety paperwork on-site.
  • Managing and recommending Personal Protective Equipment for on-site employees.
  • Delivering Health and Safety induction programmes for new on-site employees and contractors.
  • Delivering Toolbox Talks as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A recognised qualification in Health and Safety is essential.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in an on-site Health and Safety Officer position is preferred.
  • Residential construction experience is also preferred.
  • Safe Pass and Manual Handling certifications are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills are essential.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • You must be legally permitted to live and work in Ireland.
