Financial Modelling Leader
Our organisation is seeking an experienced Financial Modelling Leader to play a critical role in evaluating commercial opportunities, quantifying risks and returns, and ensuring investment decisions are grounded in thorough financial assessment.
This position requires the development of high-quality business cases, financial models, and documentation to support route-to-market decisions, revenue projections, sensitivity testing, and risk analysis. Your expertise will help align business cases with market realities, commercial priorities, and governance requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Business Case Development & Investment Support
- Develop commercial business cases for new investments, projects, and strategic initiatives, building detailed and flexible financial models to support route-to-market decisions, revenue projections, sensitivity testing, and risk analysis. Prepare high-quality investment packs and documentation for internal Stage Gate approvals and Investment Committee review. Ensure business cases meet internal governance standards and reflect the latest market and regulatory conditions.
- Market Analysis & Stakeholder Interface
- Monitor and analyse key developments across the Irish and EU energy markets, including regulatory changes, auction frameworks (e.g. RESS, CfDs), carbon pricing, and capacity market dynamics. Track competitor activity, market trends, and external risks/opportunities to inform strategic decisions. Provide regular updates and briefings to senior leadership and functional teams on market outlook and implications for our investment pipeline.
- External Advisor & Stakeholder Interface
- Act as primary point of contact for engagement with external commercial and market advisors. Manage external inputs into market studies, commercial due diligence, and modelling support to ensure consistency and value. Coordinate delivery timelines, review outputs, and ensure alignment with internal assumptions and business needs.
- Governance & Approval Process Support
- Lead the preparation of documentation required for investment governance processes, including Stage Gate reviews and Investment Committee submissions. Support responses to follow-up queries and ensure clarity of assumptions, data sources, and methodologies used. Work closely with Finance, Legal, and Commercial teams to ensure accuracy and alignment across functional inputs.
- Public Sector / State Engagement
- Support the preparation and submission of business case materials for stakeholders. Coordinate responses to queries and provide detailed analysis as required to support public sector investment oversight. Ensure all submissions reflect the strategic fit, commercial viability, and long-term value for money of proposed investments.
- Performance Management
- Proactively participate in the Performance Management process to ensure delivery of own, and the wider team's objectives.
Requirements:
- Education:
- Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Postgraduate or professional qualification (e.g., CFA, ACA, MBA) is an advantage.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5+ years' proven experience in business case development, financial modelling, or commercial strategy, ideally within the energy, infrastructure, or regulated sectors.
- Experience preparing investment appraisals and business cases for senior leadership or governance committees.
- Exposure to government-facing investment processes (e.g., NewERA, NTMA) is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with renewable energy, grid infrastructure, and policy frameworks such as RESS, CfD, and State Aid.
- Technical Skills:
- Advanced financial and analytical skills, with demonstrated ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
- Strong quantitative and modelling capability, with experience applying sensitivity/scenario analysis and investment evaluation techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the preparation of board-level materials and presentations.
- High attention to detail, with a structured approach to managing complex projects and competing priorities.
- Market & Regulatory Knowledge:
- Understanding of Irish and EU energy markets, relevant policy frameworks, and regulatory bodies.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Proven experience engaging with senior internal stakeholders and external consultants/advisors.
- Professional Memberships:
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CFA Institute, Chartered Accountants Ireland, ACCA, Energy Institute) is desirable.
