Job Title: Health and Safety Specialist

Role Overview:

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures across all services.

About the Role:

  1. Develop and implement tailored safety programmes for housing and homeless services. Provide expert advice and guidance to management and staff.
  2. Conduct regular risk assessments, develop strategies to mitigate risks, and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly.
  3. Maintain governance procedures and ensure compliance with national standards and regulatory bodies. Liaise with relevant authorities as required.
  4. Deliver training programs and workshops to embed a robust safety culture across the organisation.
  5. Review and update health and safety policies to ensure relevance, compliance, and integration into daily operations.
  6. Investigate incidents, determine root causes, and coordinate timely and effective responses.
  7. Act as the main point of contact for regulatory bodies, providing regular reports to senior management.
  8. Monitor trends and implement improvements, while providing accurate reporting to support organisational decision-making.

Candidate Requirements:

  • QQI Level 8 qualification in Health and Safety or related field, or IOSH-accredited equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Health and Safety role, preferably in the non-profit or social sector.
  • Professional membership accreditation in Health and Safety.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety management systems, statutory requirements, risk assessment, auditing, and emergency preparedness.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple priorities, and develop practical solutions.
