Job Description:
OverviewWe're seeking a skilled Automation Specialist to join our team on a full-time basis in Athlone. Working on a 24/7 shift cycle, you'll support the configuration, operation, and maintenance of process control and data historian systems for manufacturing, utilities, and facility operations. This is a hands-on role within a regulated environment, ensuring systems run smoothly and remain fully compliant.
This involves providing technical support and configuration for all site automation systems across manufacturing, utility, and facility areas. You'll also manage and coordinate third-party vendors or system integrators for project work and ongoing support.
Additionally, you'll be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and approving automation-related design and compliance documentation. You'll develop and maintain SOPs to ensure automation systems remain compliant and well-managed.
You'll respond quickly to equipment failures, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate repairs. You'll perform scheduled system monitoring, preventive maintenance, and corrective actions.
Supporting validation activities for new and existing systems will also be a key responsibility. Collaboration with cross-functional teams to optimize equipment performance is essential.
The ideal candidate will have at least three years' experience in automation engineering in a regulated environment. Experience supporting biopharma processes, preferably downstream or Fill-Finish operations, is highly desirable.
Skill in working with and managing system integrators is required. A strong background in maintaining control networks (Profibus, Ethernet) and automation platforms (DeltaV, Siemens PLCs, Siemens Desigo, SCADA/HMI) is necessary.
Knowledge of OSI PI, SQL Server, and virtualization platforms is an advantage. Experience with change control processes and deviation investigations is also beneficial.
A solid understanding of cGMP and GAMP standards for compliant automation systems is crucial. A B.S. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field is preferred.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years' automation engineering experience in a regulated environment.
- Experience supporting biopharma processes, preferably downstream or Fill-Finish operations.
- Skilled in working with and managing system integrators.
- Strong background in maintaining control networks (Profibus, Ethernet) and automation platforms (DeltaV, Siemens PLCs, Siemens Desigo, SCADA/HMI).
- Knowledge of OSI PI, SQL Server, and virtualization platforms is an advantage.
- Experience with change control processes and deviation investigations.
- Solid understanding of cGMP and GAMP standards for compliant automation systems.
Benefits:
- Shift-based role, covering nights and weekends on a 24/7 rotation.
- On-site position based in Athlone, with close collaboration across manufacturing and engineering teams.
- Opportunity to work on diverse automation platforms and large-scale systems.
- Strong team culture with focus on knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
Other Information:
- Excellent communication skills for reporting, documentation, and shift handovers are required.
- Exposure to both project-based initiatives and ongoing operational support is expected.
