Key to decarbonising electricity and building resilient infrastructure, this role involves working closely with the team in developing and implementing maintenance strategies/policies, monitoring networks and identifying maintenance needs.

Job Overview

This challenging role focuses on delivering commissioning/maintenance activities in live operational HV substations and/or power stations. It requires a high level of commitment, flexibility and self-motivation. Working independently without direct supervision is expected from the ideal candidate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess site safety prior to undertaking commissioning or maintenance activities, coordinating the work schedule with site staff as necessary.
  • Commission primary, secondary and associated equipment forming part of transmission/distribution networks and ESB power stations.
  • Maintenance test protection relays and related circuits.
  • Verify protection scheme designs and ensure compliance with approved design standards.
  • Respond promptly to critical system faults at short notice.
  • Investigate faults thoroughly and provide specialist protection support to network and power station operators.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
  • A third-level qualification or equivalent work experience is mandatory.
  • Profound knowledge and experience of operational procedures and the operation of substations and/or power stations.
  • Strong understanding of typical protection philosophies as applied to power stations and transmission networks.
  • Thorough knowledge of schematics, cubicle wiring and functional testing techniques.
  • Proven track record of delivering commissioning/maintenance activities in live operational HV substations and/or power stations.
  • Skilled in using Omicron test equipment, particularly in developing test plans for protection relay testing.
  • Familiarity with software applications required for communication with various types of protection relays.
  • Valid driver's license due to frequent site visits.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently without direct supervision.
