Job Description

We are seeking a Digital Infrastructure Policy Specialist to inform and shape the commission's response to the Large Energy Users connection policy. This role will play a crucial part in considering security of supply and network constraints, ensuring a robust pathway for new data centre customers to connect to the electricity grid.

The ideal candidate will have experience in digital infrastructure and energy policy, with a deep understanding of Large Energy User connection processes. They will be able to work collaboratively with stakeholders, fostering strong relationships to drive growth in renewable energy production.

Ireland aims to become a global leader in renewable energy production, driven by its digital technologies, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and ICT infrastructure sectors. Data centres have invested in Ireland, providing employment opportunities and data services. However, recent years have seen a significant increase in electricity demand driven by Large Energy Users, primarily due to data centre developments.

This has resulted in a substantial rise in electricity consumption from 5% in 2015 to 21% in 2023, accounting for 85% of overall demand growth. The CRU will consider responses to this consultation until COB Friday, the following month. Feedback will inform a decision to be published later in the year.
