Senior Mechanical Engineer Role Summary

Mercury, a leading construction solutions provider, seeks an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their Preconstruction Department at their head office in Dublin. This senior role will involve providing technical knowledge and expertise to support the delivery of complex engineering projects across multiple sectors.Key Responsibilities:
  • Familiarisation of design/specifications and drawings to fully understand project scope
  • Assist in generation and finalisation of estimates, tender documents, and resourcing of tender projects
  • Review MEP design and conduct value engineering exercises to optimise mechanical design solutions
  • To support engineering requirements through managing & liaising with key project stakeholders (client, suppliers, sub-contractors, vendors)
  • Review equipment specifications and generate procurement packages
  • Prepare sub-contract packages
  • Assessment of sub-contract and supplier tender returns for technical compliance with design intent specifications
  • Review construction methodology to identify programme implications and building logistics
  • Interrogate tender documentation (drawings, specifications, tender addenda, and all other documentation) for commercial risks and scope gaps relating to deliverables
  • Identify project risks and mitigation plans to deal with these risks
  • Mentor and support less experienced engineers, promoting knowledge sharing and professional development
  • Evaluate and promote the use of new engineering practices and processes to enhance delivery time of projects
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • 10+ years' experience in design of building services systems and project execution (EPC)
  • Honours degree (NFQ Level 8 for Ireland) in Mechanical Engineering
  • Proven ability to lead projects, manage technical and financial aspects, and deliver high-quality mechanical systems
  • Design and implementation of mechanical systems such as critical cooling, HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems supporting the mechanical plant
  • Strong understanding of industry standards, regulatory requirements, and value engineering principles
  • Experience in mentoring junior engineers and fostering collaboration within multidisciplinary teams
  • Competence in design software such as Navisworks, Fluid Flow, Pipe-Flo, Fathom, or similar platforms
  • Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with stakeholders and external consultants
