Job Title: Sub-Editor (Features)

We are seeking an experienced and skilled sub-editor to join our editorial team in a maternity cover contract role.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a passion for editing and storytelling to work on our digital and print channels, collaborating closely with section editors and the audience team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for curating, editing and enhancing content across all titles, ensuring delivery of high-quality finished articles ready for publication.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Writing compelling headlines that meet SEO and UX demands
  • Editing articles for grammar, punctuation, clarity and accuracy, and enhancing content as required
  • Fact checking and liaising with writers as needed
  • Editing photos and verifying images
  • Working to exacting deadlines and meeting individual goals
Requirements:
  • At least 2 years of professional journalism experience as an editor or sub-editor with digital experience
  • Experience of working in a newsroom environment
  • Familiarity with desktop publishing software and digital CMS platforms desirable
  • Comprehensive knowledge of house style and media law, especially defamation, privacy, copyright and data protection
