
Clinical Expert in Psychological Assessment and Intervention

The Staff Grade Psychologist will provide high-quality psychological assessment, formulation, and therapeutic interventions for adults referred to the Adult Mental Health Service.
This role involves a wide range of tasks including conducting comprehensive assessments, formulating psychological understanding of clients' difficulties, providing individual and group-based therapeutic interventions, supporting clients in developing recovery-focused goals and treatment plans, delivering family and carer support sessions, contributing to MDT case discussions, care planning, and clinical decision-making.
- Conduct thorough investigations into clients' mental health issues using a variety of methods including clinical interviews, psychometric testing, and structured observations.
- Develop well-informed psychological formulations of clients' difficulties based on current theoretical models.
- Deliver effective individual and group-based therapies such as CBT, DBT-informed approaches, ACT, schema therapy, and psychoeducation.
- Work closely with clients to establish achievable goals and tailored treatment plans that promote recovery.
- Provide valuable support and guidance to families and carers when necessary.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) to discuss case details, plan care, and make informed decisions about client treatment.
- Offer expert consultation and input to colleagues within the MDT.
- Engage in risk assessment and management to ensure safe and appropriate clinical practice.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in line with HSE and professional guidelines.
- Participate in service evaluations, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Make significant contributions to the development of mental health programs and pathways within the service.
- A Doctorate or equivalent qualification in Clinical, Counselling, or Educational Psychology is required.
- Candidates must be eligible for registration with the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) or relevant body.
- Applicants should have demonstrated experience in psychological assessment and evidence-based therapeutic interventions with adults presenting with diverse mental health challenges.
- Strong clinical formulation and therapeutic planning skills are essential.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills are required.
- Candidates must be able to work effectively as part of an MDT and autonomously where necessary.
- A commitment to user-centred, recovery-oriented practice is vital.
- Additionally, a full driver's license and access to transportation may be required for travel within the catchment area.
