The role of Actuary Ireland is to provide expert actuarial support and guidance across various business functions, including the Standard Life International Actuarial Function team based in Dublin. The primary responsibilities involve supporting the Head of Actuarial Function (HoAF) in reviewing and approving key actuarial documents, as well as providing technical expertise and input into various projects and initiatives.
As an experienced actuary, you will have a strong background in life insurance industry, particularly with unit-linked, annuities, and with-profits business. Your knowledge of Solvency II Standard Formula methodology and its application in calculations will be highly valued. Additionally, your excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, will enable you to effectively communicate complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Key Responsibilities- Solvency II
- Coordinate and monitor the evaluation of Solvency II results, oversee general coordination of governance and sign-off of calculations, review appropriateness of methodology, models, processes, assumptions, quality of data, modelling granularity, analysis of change, and approximations and limitations.
- Support HoAF in production of annual Actuarial Opinion on Technical Provisions (AOTP) and Actuarial Report on Technical Provisions (ARTP).
- Basis and Methodology
- Support HoAF in production of annual Underwriting Opinion.
- Support HoAF in reviewing proposals for new initiatives, pricing and product development updates, regular product and pricing reviews.
- Support attendance at Product, Pricing and Profitability Committee (PPPC), representing Actuarial Function, providing feedback on new proposals, ensuring appropriate actions taken in financial reporting for any changes in business.
- Underwriting & Pricing
- Support HoAF in production of annual Underwriting Opinion.
- Support HoAF in reviewing proposals for new initiatives, pricing and product development updates, regular product and pricing reviews.
- Support attendance at Product, Pricing and Profitability Committee (PPPC), representing Actuarial Function, providing feedback on new proposals, ensuring appropriate actions taken in financial reporting for any changes in business.
- Other Role Requirements
- Support HoAF in performing regulatory duties, ongoing relationship with CBI, issue resolution processes under intra-group reinsurance agreements.
- Develop and maintain internal relationships within SL Intl, Finance and Risk functions, Life Actuarial and Life Finance functions within Phoenix Group.
- Provide support and key input into various changes or projects within SL Intl, wider Group where required.
- Qualified Actuary
- Experience in life insurance industry, particularly with unit-linked, annuities, and with-profits business
- Knowledge of Solvency II Standard Formula methodology and its application in calculations an advantage
- Familiarity with HoAF's statutory responsibilities
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), both with technical actuarial audience and also simplifying communication of technical issues to non-technical audience.
- Ability to understand key issues quickly, form sound judgements on what is important.
