Role Overview

Lead Piping Designer Job Description

  • Act as Lead Designer on small projects or as a Senior Designer on large projects. With the potential to be the Piping Design Team Lead as part of a multi-disciplinary project delivery team.
  • Develop and implement 3D piping models for various industries.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on globally executed projects. Work with project team members, client teams, and other external parties to ensure coordination is aligned.
  • Prepare technical descriptions, drawings, complex piping plans and layouts, piping isometrics sketches and electronic models for equipment in accordance with project requirements, codes, specifications and procedures.
  • Conduct clash checking for pipe clashes and develop solutions to resolve any issues identified.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design, develop and implement piping systems, including layout, routing and sizing of pipes.
  2. Ensure that all designs meet relevant safety and regulatory standards, such as ASME, API, and ISO.
  3. Provide detailed documentation and specifications for installation, testing and maintenance of piping systems.
  4. Coordinate with contractors, suppliers and stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of projects.
  5. Assist in training and development of junior designers to improve their skills and knowledge.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in industrial piping design with a strong focus on leadership roles.
  • Demonstrable experience of managing teams, preferably within an engineering or construction company.
  • Excellent knowledge of piping codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., ASME B31.3, API 1104).
  • Experience with piping design software, particularly Cadworx suite.
  • Good understanding of MS Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Higher National Diploma (HND) or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science or related field.
