Speech and Language Therapist

This is a unique opportunity to work as a Speech and Language Therapist in an acute hospital setting. As a valued member of the multidisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality speech and language therapy services to adults inpatients.

Your Role:

  • You will deliver comprehensive assessments, diagnoses, and management of communication and swallowing disorders, with a strong emphasis on dysphagia.
  • Perform bedside assessments of swallowing function and provide safe, person-centred dysphagia management.
  • Participate in or support instrumental assessments of swallowing (e.g., VFSS or FEES) where applicable.
  • Develop and implement individualised care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Provide timely and appropriate recommendations regarding diet modifications, alternative communication strategies, and referrals.
  • Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, dietetics, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and radiology teams.
  • Attend ward rounds, case conferences, and discharge planning meetings as required.
  • Liaise with community services to support safe discharge and continuity of care.

Requirements:

  • Recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy and registration with CORU as a Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Clinical experience in the assessment and management of adults with dysphagia and communication disorders.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Postgraduate training in dysphagia management (e.g., FEES or VFSS).
  • Experience in an acute hospital or similar healthcare setting.
  • Familiarity with Irish healthcare systems and discharge pathways.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and manage adult patients with communication impairments, including aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia of speech, and cognitive-communication disorders.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and remain up to date with current research and best practices.
  • Contribute to quality improvement, audits, and clinical governance activities within the SLT department.
