**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Medical Scientist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the principle that care of the patient comes first at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the principle that care of the patient comes first at all times.
  • Maintain awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all hospital activities.
  • Participate in performance management systems and contribute to the development of action plans.
  • Develop and implement quality management systems to ensure compliance with HIQA standards.
  • Sustainably manage energy, water, and waste initiatives to create a more sustainable health service.
  • Carry out duties under the direction of the Chief Medical Scientist and Consultant Haematologist.
  • Participate in analytical work, including equipment performance, maintenance, condition, quality control, and record keeping.
  • Monitor consumables and reagent stocks supplies associated with the section.
  • Evaluate, procure, validate, and implement new analytical equipment, methods, and software.
  • Contribute to the delivery of a laboratory service that supports the clinical needs of patients.
  • Perform routine work to the highest professional standards.
  • Participate in the implementation of a quality management programme.
  • Actively participate in continuing education and research activities.
  • Participate in staff training and facilitate arrangements for education and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Promote open communications throughout the hospital.
  • Observe strict confidence when dealing with patient or hospital information.
  • Be responsible for the quality of their work and carry out duties in accordance with laboratory and hospital policy.
  • Cooperate with management, attend health and safety related training, and not undertake any task for which they have not been authorized and adequately trained.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Statutory registration on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.
  • Professional qualifications, experience, etc.
  • Good theoretical and practical knowledge of general hospital laboratory practice with professional competency in Haematology/Blood Transfusion.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of best practice in delivering a quality medical laboratory service.
  • Awareness of the requirements of ISO 15189.
  • Knowledge of laboratory accreditation and participation in the development and authorship of SOPs.
  • Understanding of the role of quality assurance, quality management, and process improvement principles in laboratory operation and planning.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development.
