Commercial Underwriter Role

Job Overview

As a Commercial Underwriter, you will play an active role in underwriting commercial multi-line property and liability business.

You will work alongside broker partners and FBD sales colleagues to achieve growth targets and probability objectives.

The successful candidate should be driven, commercially-minded, proactive and confident to make decisions within the support framework to grow the commercial business in line with risk appetite.

You will join a team that works proactively to achieve combined property and liability targets.

This role will be based in Dublin 12, operating a hybrid model of two days in the office and three days working from home.

Responsibilities
  • Underwrite commercial business according to agreed standards and limits to deliver planned financial results.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the business through acquisition while ensuring quality risk selection.
  • Monitor and adhere to underwriting discipline by using ongoing monitoring of selection criteria, rating strength and variable pricing lines.
  • Manage referrals and queries for cases within delegated underwriting authority and adherence to guidelines.
  • Collaborate with other team members and colleagues to provide excellent service standards to customers.
  • Develop and implement product strategies and participate in the review of performance of selected lines of business focusing on growth and quality risk assessment.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Achieved a professional insurance qualification to a minimum level of Certified Insurance Practitioner (CIP). ACII qualification is desirable.
  • Meet regulatory requirements as described in the Minimum Competency Code and Fitness and Probity Standards.
Experience and Competencies
  • Minimum of five years commercial underwriting experience in property and liability classes.
  • Proven track record of high performance standards.
  • Strong technical understanding of insurance products and underwriting disciplines.
  • Pragmatic decision-maker with solid underwriting assessment and reasoning skills.
  • Quality-focused to provide excellent service to all customers and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated record in building relationships within team units and external stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work on own initiative and desire to develop knowledge and experience.
  • Ambitious and energetic approach to work with positive outlook.
