Research Scientist - Planetary Magnetospheres

As a Research Scientist, you will be part of an exciting project exploring planetary magnetospheres and habitable moons. You will contribute to improving spacecraft observation analysis methods to maximize the scientific outcome of missions focused on the exploration of planetary magnetospheres and habitable moons.

About the Project

The project focuses on understanding how the interaction between a spacecraft and its environment can impact space environment observations, particularly particle and field observations. You will analyze and simulate recent JUICE space environment observations near Earth, the Moon, and in the solar wind.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop data correction techniques for particle and field instrument teams
  • Contribute to studies of Jupiter's aurora and auroral particles interacting with the JUICE spacecraft
  • Participate in collaborative projects and workshops with the space industry
  • Attend major space physics conferences and visit collaborators across Europe, the United States, and Asia

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Physics, Space Physics, Computer Science, or a closely related field
  • Good command of English
  • Advantageous experiences include spacecraft plasma and fields data analysis, modeling, as well as programming in Python

What We Offer

  • Full-time work for 4 years
  • Flexible start date as early as January 2025
  • Salary following the PhD stipends set by the Irish government (€22,000 per year, tax free)
