Job Summary

The successful candidate will lead the Communications and Corporate Marketing Department, developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy that reflects the corporation's vision and promotes Galway City as a location to work, live, visit and invest.

This senior managerial role requires strong leadership skills, innovative thinking and a commitment to effective communication and stakeholder engagement.

The ideal candidate will have experience in managing and leading teams, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality communications and marketing campaigns.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a strategic communications plan that aligns with the corporation's objectives.
  • Lead and manage the Communications and Corporate Marketing team, providing guidance and support to ensure delivery of excellent results.
  • Collaborate with senior management and stakeholders to develop and promote the Galway City brand.
  • Manage the development and implementation of crisis communication plans and on-the-ground management.
  • Design and deliver communications strategies to support stakeholder engagement and consultation processes.
  • Oversee the drafting and publication of press releases and media responses.
  • Work closely with the Head of Tourism and other key stakeholders to activate integrated marketing campaigns.
  • Provide or arrange media training for senior management where required.
  • Build positive working relationships with local and national media and handle media queries in a proactive manner.

Requirements:

  • Qualifications: A third-level qualification in a relevant field is essential. A postgraduate degree would be an advantage.
  • Skills and Experience: The successful candidate will possess strong leadership and management skills, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality communications and marketing campaigns. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Knowledge: A good understanding of the public sector and local government management practices is desirable.
  • Personal Qualities: The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for communications and marketing, with a commitment to delivering excellence in all aspects of their work.
