About the Role Our client is a nationally recognised market leader providing commissioning and engineering services across life sciences, healthcare, data centres, and commercial projects. They are now seeking an experienced HVAC Testing & Balancing (TAB) Engineer to join their commissioning team. This is an onsite role based in Ireland, and Critical Skills Employment Permit support is available for suitable international candidates. The position involves carrying out air and water balancing, system testing, and commissioning services on HVAC installations in accordance with project specifications and industry standards (CIBSE, NEBB, BSRIA). This is a field-based role with travel to client sites across Ireland. The successful candidate will be joining a high-performing, collaborative team, working on some of the most technically complex and mission-critical projects in the Irish market. Key Responsibilities Perform testing, adjusting, and balancing (TAB) of HVAC systems including air and hydronic systems.Verify and document airflow and water flow to design specifications.Conduct system performance assessments including airflow, static pressure, pre-commissioning, commissionability studies, and water flow measurements.Identify and troubleshoot system performance issues, providing recommendations for corrective action.Interpret mechanical drawings and specifications to verify system design and installation compliance.Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and commissioning teams to resolve technical issues.Conduct site inspections and audits pre- and post-installation.Prepare accurate TAB records and final balancing reports in line with project requirements and standards (CIBSE Code A, BSRIA, NEBB).Use TAB equipment such as manometers, anemometers, flow hoods, and pressure gauges.Maintain calibration of instruments and ensure tools are in good working condition.Ensure all work is carried out safely and in compliance with site H&S policies, HSE regulations, and relevant standards.Support commissioning activities and functional performance testing. RequirementsEssential Minimum 23 years experience in HVAC testing, commissioning, or balancing (TAB).Strong understanding of HVAC systems and schematics (AHUs, FCUs, VAVs, pumps, chillers, boilers).Proficiency in using TAB tools and instruments.Engineering qualification or CIBSE certification preferred (or ability to obtain).Proficient in reading HVAC drawings, schematics, and specifications.Full clean driving licence (role requires travel to multiple sites).Strong verbal and written communication skills.Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability.Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects. Desirable TAB certification from a recognised body (NEBB, AABC, BSRIA, or equivalent).Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS/BAS) and control strategies.Experience in mission-critical environments such as cleanrooms, data centres, labs, or healthcare.Proficiency with balancing instruments (Shortridge, TSI).Experience with airtightness testing or cleanroom certification.IOSH or Safe Pass certification.Experience supervising or mentoring junior engineers or technicians.
