We're on the lookout for a skilled sustainability manager to aid in our Mace construction project in Ballycoolin, Dublin, working on-site five days a week. The successful candidate will join our existing responsible business team, focusing on providing environmental and social value services for Mace's construction division. This role will also play a key part in advancing Mace's broader goals to decrease client carbon emissions by 10 million tons by 2026 and generate €1.3 billion in societal value by 2030. Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development of the client's carbon and sustainability strategy for the project, ensuring project outcomes are met by the team.
  • Translate technical concepts into understandable language and highlight the value of sustainability.
  • Support Mace's position as a leader in climate change and sustainability.
  • Deliver purpose-driven and measurable results on the project.
  • Ensure all targets (legal, client, and Mace) are achieved.
  • Oversee the project's contribution to Mace's 2026 business plan KPIs and targets.
  • Stay informed about client and market requirements to enhance and maintain essential skills.
  • Foster positive relationships with clients, design team members, contractors, subcontractors, and regulators.
  • Represent Mace at relevant forums and present to clients and working groups.
  • Engage regularly with clients and consultants by sharing knowledge, providing updates, and case studies.
  • Ensure data quality by reviewing datasets and identifying actionable insights.
  • Drive enhancements and improved outcomes, not just reports.
  • Measure and track innovation, delivering meaningful and measurable results.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements, legislation, and Mace's standards.
  • Support bid activities for Business Unit leaders in construction, exceeding clients' expectations while ensuring feasibility.
  • Identify local needs and create social value plans to meet those needs.
  • Keep local communities informed through newsletters and meetings, and address any complaints or inquiries promptly.
  • Manage the project's targets as outlined in the employment & skills plan, collaborating with stakeholders and the supply chain for a coordinated approach.
  • Monitor and report on your project monthly, submitting reports to relevant councils and clients as required.
  • Participate in client and project review meetings to report on outcomes, issues, and risks related to socio-economic targets.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, colleges, councils, training providers, employment charities, and job centers.
  • Implement employment strategies with subcontractors and local authorities, including screening and referring apprenticeship and job start candidates.
  • Create case studies to showcase best practices.
  • Organize community investment activities and programs for the project.
  • Collaborate with schools and colleges for visits and work experiences in line with Mace's objectives.
  • Write and analyze social value statements.
Requirements:
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to drive change, lead, and find solutions effectively with a strong focus on achieving results.
  • Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.
  • Proficient in administration and IT, with advanced skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Capable of interacting with individuals at all levels.
  • Skilled in persuasion and influencing stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently.
  • Empathetic listener.
  • Reliable and dedicated.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and adaptable to different work environments.
  • Over 4 years of proven experience in sustainability work.
  • Expertise in the relevant industry, sector, region, etc.
  • Stakeholder engagement abilities and collaboration with various teams.
  • Clear communication of technical topics to different audiences.
  • Ability to positively influence others to achieve goals.
  • Relationship management and conflict resolution skills.
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification or equivalent.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Experience reporting and implementing social value frameworks.
  • Background in developing or implementing environmental management systems for projects.
  • Familiarity with construction practices.
  • Project management expertise.
  • Relevant professional memberships (IEMA, ICRS, CIEMA, ICE, RICS) or equivalent.
  • Curiosity and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Strong presentation and storytelling skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Programme engagement skills.
  • Interpersonal skills and self-awareness.
  • Familiarity with emissions and sustainability standards.
  • Knowledge of building performance standards and sustainability practices.
  • Understanding of social value quantification methodologies.
