Galway, Galway, Ireland Economicsnetwork Full time

The University of Galway invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) permanent Lecturer position in Performance Practices. This role encompasses undergraduate teaching in Performance and Screen Studies—a shared subject between the disciplines of Drama and Theatre Studies and Film and Digital Media—as well as postgraduate teaching across both areas. The successful candidate will also contribute to the management of the undergraduate BA subject offering and actively contribute to the research environment of the School of English, Media and Creative Arts, the Institute of Creativity, and the broader university community.

Launched in 2022, Performance and Screen Studies (GY101) brings together two globally recognised disciplines— Drama and Theatre Studies and Film and Digital Media – both ranked among the Top 100 in the QS World University Rankings for Performing Arts. This interdisciplinary subject offers students a dynamic curriculum encompassing drama, film, television, artificial intelligence, practice-based research, social media, gaming, streaming platforms, political activism, and more. This course has recently undergone further curricular development to ensure its alignment with Teaching Council requirements for the new Leaving Certificate subject entitled Drama, Film, and Theatre Studies.

The ideal candidate will have university-level teaching experience, or demonstrable ability to deliver excellent university-level teaching, in at least two of the following core areas: performance studies, screen studies, acting, stage and screen design, playwriting, directing/devising, practice-based research, or short-form filmmaking. Given the post's alignment with the Institute for Creativity, relevant experience/research in creative practice or creative technologies will be considered an advantage.

Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant field and demonstrate a capacity for independent administrative work, as well as a strong commitment to research, teaching, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

For informal enquiries, please contact Dr. Ian Walsh (ian.walsh@universityofgalway.ie and +353 (0)91 493233).
