Location: The successful candidate will be based in Vision Ireland's Athlone office. A hybrid option is available for 2 days per week following successful completion of the probation period.
Contract type: Full time, Permanent
Working hours: 37 hours per week, 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Vision Ireland Services provides support and services nationwide to people experiencing sight loss, and collaborates with public and private organizations to ensure accessibility for the blind and vision impaired.
About the role:
The Community Resource Worker (CRW) will work with children who are blind or vision impaired in the Midlands/CHO8 area and surrounding regions. The role involves supporting children and their families, working with a multidisciplinary team, and traveling as needed.
Qualifications include a third-level qualification in Occupational Therapy, allied health professions, Special Education, or Low Vision. Experience with children with disabilities is an advantage.
Purpose of the post: To provide high-quality, professional services to children with vision loss and their families, helping them achieve their potential.
Key Relationships:
Internal: Children with vision loss and their families, colleagues within the children's team, other departments, volunteers.
External: Visiting Teacher Service, schools, colleges, early intervention teams, statutory and voluntary bodies.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing referrals and conducting assessments
- Managing a caseload of children with tailored interventions
- Providing intervention programs to develop independent living, compensatory, and travel skills
- Supporting families emotionally and practically
- Coordinating group activities and facilitating inclusion
- Providing information on sight loss and its impact
- Liaising with external bodies to promote rights and needs
- Collaborating with families and professionals to ensure positive outcomes
- Maintaining records and complying with policies and child protection measures
General: Adhere to all Vision Ireland policies and procedures. Responsibilities may evolve with service needs.
Selection Criteria:
- Qualifications in relevant health or education fields
- Experience with children with disabilities and in vision habilitation
- Strong communication and record-keeping skills
- Willingness to travel
- Experience in health & social care sectors, particularly vision impairment
