MSIF Project Worker – Merchants Quay Ireland
Location: Riverbank, Dublin 8
Contract Type: 10 months, SIF Pilot 18 months to June 2026
Overview: A MSIF is a hygienic, safe, medically supervised healthcare environment where people can inject drugs, obtained elsewhere, under the supervision of trained health professionals. It offers a compassionate, person-centred service which reduces the harms associated with drug injecting. This role contributes to growing MSIF services and supports vulnerable and marginalised people who may not engage with existing health services.
Role details
- Job Title: Project Worker
- Report to: Clinical Nurse Manager
- Objective: Deliver services for addiction and co-existing mental health issues while the client is experiencing homelessness.
Responsibilities
- Clinical processes: Observe and monitor clients' wellbeing during visits; provide opportunistic interventions for safer injecting and health promotion; engage with clients to identify health needs and refer to relevant multidisciplinary team members; follow the Clinical Nurse Manager's direction and assist during client emergencies; maintain a safe, therapeutic environment.
- Operational processes: Undertake clinical work in line with MSIF policies; record all client observations in the MSIF database; collaborate with colleagues and managers to achieve MSIF objectives; develop and maintain skills in overdose management, de-escalation, infection control, vein care, safer injecting practices and health promotion; manage infection prevention and control and IPC protocols.
- Client relationships: Foster social inclusion and client participation in MSIF operations; maintain high standards of conduct to uphold the service's reputation with stakeholders.
- People leadership: Engage in MSIC's performance management framework; attend meetings and training; prioritise safety; mentor less experienced staff where appropriate; support rehabilitation and aftercare for service users, linking with other services as needed; provide education, information, advocacy and treatment support; refer clients to mental health and drug treatment services; develop integrated care plans with service users and ensure case management.
- Reporting: Produce standard monthly and quarterly reports; report complaints and compliments; ensure data is kept updated in CRM and HRB systems; maintain complete records for each treatment episode.
- General responsibilities: Support audits/evaluations; comply with documentation requirements (client files, accident reports, complaints, minutes); communicate effectively with the Clinical Nurse Manager; help develop the role to meet service requirements; adhere to MQI policies on health & safety, confidentiality, boundaries and staff conduct; undertake other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience
- Have a relevant qualification (minimum QQI Level 7 or equivalent) in social care, addiction, community or youth work, with mental health training such as MI and/or CBT; Relapse Prevention is desirable.
- Minimum of 2 years relevant employed work experience in addiction, community development, health & social care, or mental health services, including crisis support, key working and case management.
- Understanding of the National Drugs Strategy, Substance Misuse Strategy, National Drug Rehabilitation Framework, QUADS and/or SBHC Standards, and related mental health policy acts.
Salary: 34, ,214 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Days: Monday to Sunday
