Substance Abuse Professional

The role of a Substance Abuse Professional involves delivering high-quality support services to individuals struggling with problematic alcohol use in North Dublin City and County. This opportunity allows the professional to make a real difference in people's lives while being part of a dynamic team.

  • Provide one-to-one key working and case management using evidence-based interventions.
  • Manage a caseload of clients with problematic/dependent alcohol use, including the development and implementation of client-centred care plans.
  • Support clients in dealing with personal issues related to their addiction and mental health, such as housing, welfare rights, medical treatment, referrals, etc.
  • Engage in targeted outreach work, including home visits, inter-agency outreach, detached street work, etc., prioritizing the identification and engagement of relevant clients across the CHO 9 area.
  • Work towards developing a central integrated care pathway in conjunction with HSE and funded services.
  • Develop and deliver evidence-based workshops, group programs, and aftercare based on the needs of the client group.
  • Develop links with relevant statutory, community, and voluntary agencies.
  • Identify gaps in service provisions and develop appropriate responses in conjunction with relevant agencies.
  • Engage in community development and community networking in the wider CHO 9 area.
  • Develop and maintain links with alcohol users, their families, and the wider community.
  • Support trainee and volunteer staff, where relevant.
  • Attend/participate in line management supervision by the clinical service manager.
Collaboration and Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring that the highest quality service is delivered.
  • Participate in team meetings and client reviews, actively engaging in the continued development and coordination of the alcohol service.
  • Maintain professional and up-to-date records in relation to work with clients.
  • Produce progress reports, annual reports, logic models, and other documents required.
  • Promote services to relevant statutory, community, and voluntary agencies.
  • Be fully competent in using IT, word, email, Microsoft Office, and be able to operate Client Management System Ecass and HRB Link.
Requirements:
  • Diploma in Addiction Studies level 7 or relevant qualification to the role.
  • 2 years post-qualification experience.
  • Addiction and Social Inclusion knowledge and experience.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the principles of reducing alcohol-related harm.
