Job Overview

The Laboratory Manager role oversees the day-to-day operations of a laboratory, ensuring high-quality sample processing and efficient workflow management.

Responsibilities
  • Prioritise workloads to meet business demands and collaborator expectations.
  • Plan daily/weekly assignments for technical staff to ensure adequate cover and redundancy.
  • Provide hands-on support for workflows when required.
  • Manage inventory and consumable stock control, ensure equipment maintenance and calibration schedules are maintained.
  • Maintain daily/weekly/monthly cleaning and maintenance logs for equipment and work areas.
  • Draft and review laboratory policies and procedures to ensure accuracy and consistency with implementation.
  • Set, maintain, and track quality objectives and indicators to ensure best practice and regulatory compliance standards are maintained.
  • Provide quality indicators and workload statistics as requested by senior staff.
  • Support integration of laboratory information systems with instruments and company databases.
  • Maintain and develop laboratory information systems.
  • Promote continuous process improvement to enhance laboratory efficiency using quality control techniques.
  • Develop plans to ensure adequate resources and inventory to meet service needs.
  • Ensure employee safety and regulatory compliance in the laboratory.
  • Perform and record internal quality audits and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Record and manage non-conformances related to laboratory processes/equipment/facilities.
  • Manage implementation and recording of change controls in collaboration with senior staff.
  • Provide training and guidance to new and junior staff in relevant laboratory procedures.
  • Liaise with partners to ensure smooth environmental operations of the laboratory.
Requirements
  • Postgraduate qualification (MSc/PhD) in Biological Science or equivalent.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in personnel and project supervision/management.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment, including high-throughput systems.
  • Ability to establish priorities, manage tasks, anticipate issues, and complete assignments timely.
  • Flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Minimum two years of work experience in a high-throughput laboratory environment.
  • Experience complying with international laboratory standards.
