Job Title: Healthcare Scientist Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to play a vital role in our laboratory team. As an integral member, you will be responsible for providing a professional laboratory service to users and clients.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support all three laboratory disciplines by preparing samples for analysis, supplied according to clinical need.
  • Assist in the routine operation and development of the laboratory specimen reception, prioritising and managing own work.
  • Receive, sort, and prioritise all samples arriving at Specimen Reception, unpacking, checking, labelling, delivering, preparing and storing samples.
  • Carefully prepare samples for analysis, involving centrifuging and separating samples, pipetting serum, measuring and recording volumes, and determining sample PH.
  • Accurately enter and check patient request information onto laboratory computer system, booking in electronically ordered laboratory tests.
  • Deal with problem samples, refer to team leader/senior Laboratory staff if necessary, rejecting unsuitable specimens and entering the information onto the laboratory computer system.
  • Communicate information to recognised users regarding sample suitability, prioritise, record and package samples for referral to local and Mainland UK laboratories.
  • Maintain adequate stocks of laboratory consumables, report to Senior laboratory staff when replacements are required.
  • Operate, monitor and maintain equipment associated with sample preparation and storage, including centrifuges, safety cabinets, laboratory pipettes, fridges and freezers.

Essential Criteria: 5 GCSEs, 3 at C or higher for Science, Maths and English.
