Are you a skilled design professional looking for a new challenge? Our client is seeking an experienced Technical Design Manager to join their team.

Job Description

The Technical Design Manager will play a key role in the delivery of transformative residential and regeneration development projects across the country. This exciting opportunity will see the successful candidate work on a portfolio of development projects, from early concept to delivery and handover. The role requires a solutions orientated approach, combined with technical expertise and extensive experience of designing and delivering medium and high density residential schemes.

The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, with the ability to think strategically and commercially. They will also be able to build trusting relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

This role offers an opportunity to leverage scale and proactively identify industry leading design and technical solutions that can be appropriately standardised and implemented across the organisation's portfolio. The Technical Design Manager will be responsible for supporting implementation of design and standardisation requirements, collaborating with internal teams and other stakeholders, and championing clear and concise communication of design and technical requirements to external multidisciplinary design teams and contractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and advise on design and technical requirements on a portfolio of development projects.
  • Collaborate with the development team and other internal teams to develop clear project briefs and design principles.
  • Proactively support development optioneering analysis and recommend optimum scheme designs.
  • Review, interrogate and challenge all engineered design solutions produced throughout the design and development process.
  • Champion design co-ordination and sustainable design solutions.

The role will also involve influencing and ensuring that critical design decisions are fully considered and challenged in a timely manner, as well as embedding modern methods of construction and design into the pre-planning phase. Additionally, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to support wider business development and corporate strategy initiatives.

Person Specifications / Requirements

The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years' experience in the various stages of the development lifecycle, with a recognised degree or diploma level qualification in construction or a related field. They will also have experience as lead designer or coordinator on large scale residential projects, as well as knowledge of building fabric performance requirements and heating and ventilation systems. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent relationship management skills, and commercial acumen are also essential.
