Job Title: Food Service Manager

The role of the Food Service Manager is pivotal in delivering high-quality catering services to residents, staff, and visitors at a care centre.

This key position ensures that all food service operations are aligned with the centre's values of quality, health and safety, respect, caring, and compassion.

Key Responsibilities include:

  1. Overseeing daily food service delivery for residents.
  2. Ensuring full compliance with food safety legislation.
  3. Supervising food storage, preparation, production, and distribution.
  4. Collaborating with dietitians, nursing, and care staff to meet clinical and individual dietary needs.
  5. Managing the day-to-day operations of the on-site cafe.
  6. Overseeing cafe staff, menus, and service flow.
  7. Monitoring cafe stock levels, managing purchasing, and ensuring effective cost control and minimal waste.
  8. Gathering feedback from residents and families and implementing improvements based on satisfaction surveys and audits.
  9. Leading, training, and supervising food service and cafe staff.
  10. Organising rotas and managing staffing needs efficiently.
  11. Ensuring all staff follow hygiene protocols and food safety procedures.
  12. Monitoring and managing food service and cafe budgets to ensure cost-effective operations.
  13. Participating in menu planning and procurement decisions.
  14. Maintaining records and documentation to support environmental health inspections and audit readiness.
  15. Assisting in internal and external audits, including internal and external food safety inspections.
  16. Identifying and implementing service improvements based on audit findings and internal reviews.

Essential Criteria for this position include:

  • A degree in Culinary Arts or a similar discipline, management qualification preferred but not essential.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in a food service or cafe restaurant management role in a high-volume setting (serving at least 200 meals daily), with relevant supervisory responsibilities.
  • Certified HACCP Management training, e.g. QQI Level 6 - Designing Food Safety Management Systems or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
